So my question is, do Las Vegas soccer fans/residents want Flamengo as owners? Also, would they rather have them or the Lights? I mean, I don't know who's renderings those are, but it says Flamengo Vegas on the stadium
Why don’t you go ahead and hop on a flight from Texas and drop off your money here, and uh, we’ll consider your question. Dynamo fan are ya?
If real money is interested in Vegas Soccer, that’s good. If it is Flamingo and they are for real why not?
Hi, it me, the only guy in this thread who lives here. Why are the rest of you so bored with where you live?
What struck me was they have a history of financial problems, so why look to expand to a league that charges $300 million to enter?
I live in Iowa, so that's self explanatory... In all seriousness, I am fascinated with the (long overdue) shift in thinking when it comes to recognizing Vegas as a place where people actually live and want the "normal" experiences of every other city that size. Watching the major leagues kick the tires has been interesting. I'm still fairly shocked that the NHL was the first to go all in, but the Knights have been a success by every metric. I believe the Raiders will be at least as successful and probably more successful than they were in Oakland and LA. With that in mind, I am curious about your thoughts regarding a Chivas USA-esque "Flamengo Vegas" vs retaining the current franchise identity (regardless of owner) should the team move to MLS.
I’d be a little sad if it comes at the expense of the Lights branding and personality. They’re a fun USL franchise that makes big efforts to cultivate community. Basically, this is a real estate deal that needs a soccer partner. Seems like the main investors are looking for a partner to do the soccer side. I am skeptical of Flamengo but hey what do I know. I’d be happy to have MLS. I don’t for one minute believe Foles is making any kind of bid to put a team in Allegiant Stadium. The mayor wants the team in the city and that part of downtown is a target for investment. The deal is on the table on the real estate side.
That seems to be the case more often than not. I'd hoped that we would be beyond using MLS (and other leagues, for that matter) to buoy real estate moves by this point.
Oook??? So anyway, I guess Vegas residents don't care if it's Flamengo USA, as long as it's MLS soccer? That's all I'm asking. Oh, and yeah, Dynamo fan. Though I don't know what that has to do with it.
I guess there's the Chivas experience to consider plus the fact that the US subsidiaries of Red Bull and CFG seem to be fairly low on their owners' list of priorities.
I'll give you Chivas, but I think that RB and City do a fairly good job with their MLS teams. It's obvious that they are not as prized as their clubs in Germany or England, respectively, but they're not exactly resting on their laurels either. NYC finished first and RBNY finished sixth in the East last year. Hell, NYRB II finished sixth in the USL Championship East last year, ahead of the other MLS reserve sides.
With sacramento collapsing completely, I think all of the marbles belong to Vegas to make a move for team 30
Don't be surprised if Detroit emerges as the 30th club. Many people thinks that Las Vegas and Phoenix are the frontrunners, but I don't think you can say that at this time. MLS seems to be cautious to put a club in the desert heat. After being burned by Ron Buckle. They have even bigger money waiting in Detroit with Gores, Gilbert and the Fords, being patience and willing to possibility to pay 350-400M for the expansion fee. You have to think they will get another look. Maybe they are willing to built an 25,000 seat outdoor soccer specific stadium on the site of Joe Louis Area.
I dont know if it is paranoia on my part, but being in Phoenix and Vegas semi-regularly, I find Vegas's summers to be slightly less of an onslaught than Phoenix's. Nights in Vegas in the summer can be tolerable. Phoenix heat even at night tends to be relentless well past 10 pm.
