I'm a Vegas resident and a LV Lights STH. I also sense that Vegas' unique qualities as a worldwide mega entertainment brand interests MLS, in addition to any southwest desert geography considerations. It seems the sports industry has discovered the nexus with Vegas given the NHL and NFL movement into Vegas. It seems that MLS may calculate a net plus given the unique Vegas identity vs. competition with the other sports options now here, but I'm not sure about that. But it does seem the city is really on board with the possibility of MLS arrival and the prospective ownership group they gave negotiating privileges to.
A plan to convert the Cashman Field area into a mixed-use development featuring a new Las Vegas MLS stadium is still in the planning phases, with a two-month extension now in effect. #sportsbiz https://t.co/xjAwsuwfEt pic.twitter.com/PcKI9nIf85— SoccerStadiumDigest (@thestadiumpitch) December 3, 2019 There’s some substance, for instance. And please don’t call me names or make some homophobic comment.
Question: Does anyone believe the Raiders moving to Las Vegas drum up enthusiasm to have an MLS team or will city officials as well as potential fans lose interest as they will put all their efforts into supporting an NFL franchise? Just curious....
MOD NOTE: Cleaned up last couple pages Rahbiefowlah and Georg - stop the childish nonsense or get out.
It seems like the city government is big on MLS coming to the city. NFL to Vegas is a done deal as was NHL. City is keen on redevelopment of that part of downtown anchored by an MLS team in a new stadium. City has extended their discussions with a very deep pocketed ownership group. I know that the mayor and city has been looking to expand beyond the casino and hotel industry for a while. Was interested in bringing MLS even before the NHL and NFL were realities. And I hope so. I would like to exchange my USL Las Vegas Lights season tickets for MLS Las Vegas Lights season tickets.
Yep, still going forward. I think they would be better than Charlotte. Charlotte sounds too much like an MLS 1.0 situation, with an MLS owner just wanting another tenant for his soccer-inappropriate NFL stadium. And I predict Charlotte and Nashville will realize the fears of soccer in the South, and not be another Atlanta. Those SEC and ACC football good ol boys don't generally dig soccrr. Reports out of Nashville paint a dismal picture for season ticket sales already.

With Miami off the board, the only real city left without a team that has any sort of sizzle/sexy factor is, in my view, Vegas. Detroit & Phoenix are twice as big, and Cleveland, SD, & Tampa probably 33% larger (CSA/MSA), but none of those scream sizzle to me. Of the 2+ million CSA/MSAs, Indy, Pitt, Milwaukee, San Antonio, & Raleigh are it without a team. New Orleans generates sizzle of a sort, but is twice as small and potentially underwater. Other smallish cities could work (OKC, Memphis, Louisville) but no sizzle there. Plus, LA, LAFC, SJ, Sac, Sea, Port, Van, Vegas is an easy 8 team Pacific division (32 teams). If you want to go 9/10 (36/40 with 4 divisions), add SD + PHX.
and just like ATL, Nashville, Miami and Charlotte; Vegas now have a NFL presence and a brand new NFL stadium that can be used if necessary. Plus they already have a D2 team with a great name and Elvis as a mascot. WHAT ELSE COULD YOU ASK FOR?
If you use the search function the things you are saying about Charlotte were said about Atlanta and Blank being another Kraft in literally thousands of posts. Charlotte has over 20k season ticket reservations and Tepper has made great hires on the socçer side. Nasville has over 13,000 season tickets sold and over 40k seats sold for their home opener. I think we can put the 'soccer in the south, ACC and SEC doesn't work' myth to bed.
I hope so. Nothing would please me more than to see Charlotte and Nashville succeed like Atlanta. I know about the Atlanta predictions. We'll just have to wait to see if my Southern stereotype is finally obliterated. Although developments in Charlotte do seem promising.
Maybe the fast time-line the city wanted just hit a little speed bump. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.re...egas-soccer-stadium-hits-setback-1955581/amp/ "Citing details “still yet to be resolved” in negotiations with a developer, Las Vegas officials said Tuesday that a proposed stadium deal at Cashman Field will not be presented to city lawmakers next week as expected." So it looks like they just missed this City meeting. Maybe the next scheduled one. Need to resolve detail issues to their satisfaction. Let's hope it's not more serious, or develops into something more serious.
"Las Vegas City Manager Scott Adams said Wednesday that agreements for a proposed soccer stadium at city-owned Cashman Field are still in play and could be put in front of the City Council within 30 days."
Theres multiple parties that are zeroing in on Cashman field, and not just with the intent of soccer. Hope the soccer guys move quick.
Flamengo would be interested in creating an @MLS franchise based in Las Vegas and that plan includes construction of the stadium in the Crushman district. Supposably the LV mayor will announce the bid on Sep 2 according to @JornalOGlobo https://t.co/yDEhucrzZl— 🇺🇸🇨🇴 (@El_gringoFutbol) August 24, 2020
I'm not sure how Flamengo, which has only recently recovered from long-term financial difficulties, could find $300 million+ for an expansion fee and another couple of hundred $million for a stadium. Isn't it a fan owned club?
Maybe they will partner with Renaissance Cos? https://www.reviewjournal.com/sport...t-says-2102847/amp/?__twitter_impression=true
