Continued from here. It got so long we have to start over. I personally would like to see the downtown stadium get built. However 200M for the stadium and franchise fee isn't enough. The league wants a way to deal with the heat. That means a roof of some kind. A budget of 125!M won't get it. A budget of 300 to 350 is more realistic .
The Las Vegas City Council will vote next Wednesday on a special tourisim tax to help fund a downtown stadium.
Don't want to turn this into a Chivas , Mia, or DC thread , but my take it that Las Vegas' best bet is one of the above failing to a stadium or an owner ( Chivas)...... I could see where a wannabe owner would rather forego LA if the entry fee is basically the same but his share / cost of infrastructure ( in Las Vegas) is way less That being said I wish DC and Beckco all the best. If anyone moves to Vegas I want it to be Chivas. They basically don't exist in LA media market ... LA2 is too valuable to get started playing in the coliseum or some other nasty place even for a few years ...
I believe if the LV City Council approves the tax district Vegas is well on its way to a downtown stadium. I also believe if a LA buyer who wants to build a stadium in the LA area. Chivas will move. As a matter of fact Las Vegas could start building later this summer or early fall
Then we have potential good news. I know there's a ton of Vegas haters. But dang the demo there is perfect. If you market it as a working class team and not a a team of the elite and price most of the seats reasonably in a good facility, you will have few empty seats. But like I said, I don't want Vegas to be the last recourse of other teams except perhaps a re-branded Chivas .... Unfortunately I think it's Las Vegas only chance. Not expansion.
Got a random email today and it looks like the MLS2LV campaign is officially starting up. http://findlaysportslv.com/
Let's see: - Ownership group (is that Findlay as in the family that owns a ton of stuff in Vegas?) - Official website - Stadium renderings - Target year for entering the league This seems legit and actually promising.
http://findlaysportslv.com/executive-team/ Former RSL CEO shows up, Dean Howes. Not sure thats a positive.
I would really like to see Las Vegas take a step forward and build a soccer specific stadium to lure Chivas to Las Vegas. Who wouldn't make Las Vegas one of their away matches every year?
The downtown stadium site is a mile or less from any hotel downtown. You could start the march to the match right down the Fremont Street Experence.
these folks seem to think an announcement is imminent https://www.facebook.com/pages/MLS-NASL-USL-Pro-Expansion-Talk/681179008616237
It's true. The problem is they may not have all the financing. But they are looking for partners. BTW there will be a USL Pro team playing in Las Vegas in 2015. The partners are finalizing the deal next week.
Love the stadium concept, location, etc. I think a Las Vegas team will do great in MLS. I'm not sure why they would have turf if they have a retractable roof in a warm weather city but my biggest problem is Cordish being part of the ownership group.
This! Screw MLS in Vegas if that's what they are going to do. It's not worth it. Turf should only be a choice of last resort; it just changes the game too much.
Drought, there are watering rations. If MLS comes to Vegas I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it's artificial turf.
If an owner comes along that wants to, cool. But the Findlay group are pushing MLS. I severely doubt they would settle for D3.
Luckily, it's not up to them. Unfortunately, it is up to the MLS I/Os and their choices seem to skew to how much money it will make them, rather than the aesthetics of the game. Not saying that isn't their right, but...
