For us who dont speak spanish very well It might even happen that Barca will sell Saviola Valencia watch as Barcelona fire warning at Saviola tribalfootball.com - December 27, 2003 Barcelona president Joan Laporta has warned striker Javier Saviola that he must finalise his European passport qualifications or face being sold. The Argentine qualifies for an EU passport, but is yet to apply - so restricting Barcelona in the transfer market. Valencia have been linked with Saviola and Laporta said: "He is a very important player and we have recommended to him that he is nationalized soon for the good of all. "It is important that he obtains a passport because next season we will only be able to play him as a non-EU player." As part of his contract, if Saviola gains a European passport Barcelona must pay him £700,000.
Saviola unhappy at sub role Thursday, 08 January 2004 By Patricio Figueroa Barcelona striker Javier Saviola says that he is going through his worst spell since moving to Spain as he continues to struggle for regular football. The Argentinian international told local radio that he feels uncomfortable at Camp Nou as coach Frank Rijkaard continues to snub him and place him on the bench. Saviola is bemused by his lack of action and is becoming increasingly unhappy in Barcelona due to the time he spends on the bench. He says it is hard to show his best form when he only plays at the end of the match, and is desperate to get back playing more often - fearing that he may have to consider leaving if things do not improve. "When the coach gave the team that was going to play I really got surprised because I wasn't included in it. Then I tried to accept the decision and take in the best way possible," Saviola told La Red. "This is the worst moment that I have gone through since I arrived at Barcelona because I have never been so much time without playing and sitting on the substitutes' bench. "This hasn't even happened to me at River. It is very difficult to do things well if you only have the chance to play the last five minutes of each game. "The coach that really took profit of me was Antic, he knew very well how to make me play but I hope that this situation ends soon and that the good moments arrive at once. "I wouldn't like to have to leave Barcelona because coming to this team has been one of the best things that has happened to me in my entire life."
Saviola is being very shrewd, he should not apply for his citizenship or whatever because its his only bargaining chip right now, if he gets a non-eu passport, he will really not get any playing time, he will be just a regular player... Barca is stupid to have such a talent and not play him, absolutely stupid... ManU lived by the 4-4-2 with great, great success for a long time, but now, the team is plays a one striker formation because of the personnel the team now has... its not some new vogue system, we just dont have Teddy and Ole Gunnar, Dwight and Andy anymore... we have Ruud, If you have a good forward who happens not to be a target forward... dont play him like one, especially when you have someone like Ronnaldinho as a creative force in midfield to carry the ball, especially when u do have a target forward in PK there are so many things the team can do its silly... u could play Kluivert at the top with Ronnie and Saviola on either side of him, or Saviola slightly behind Kluivert and Ronnie in central midfield to bring the ball forward... -------------Kluivert ----------------Saviola Overmars-------Ronnie----------Quaresma ---------------Xavi----------------------
If Saviola gets a Non-EU passport that only benefits himself. He can go to England + Germany, countries w/ Non-EU limitations on players other than Spain. By getting a Non-EU passport, yes Barca can play him MORE. Because they can use the slot on another player. Right now the only club truly interested is Valencia, by speaking out, his agent has tried to invite interest from other clubs. Saviola can earn 700K Euros from getting a Spanish Passport. what's the friggin hold up? He's not getting played w/out it...what would it hurt to get it? Nobody loses if he gets a Spanish passport.
