laopinion: Club America close to buying Earthquakes & rename SJ to "Club America USA" New name for the Earthquakes in 2004, if Club America Purchase the team. Club America USA or Latin USA.
This is one of the things that bothers me about Chivas. If they want to buy into the league fine. Don't go trying to Mexicanize (is that a word?) it. The team's name is the Earthquakes - live with it.
While I know Club America is in negotiations for partial/majority ownership of the Quakes, I wouldn't take this article as gospel (or anything close to it), especially since it was either this paper or articles like it that claimed Anschutz was selling LA to Vergara and he could flood the league with Mexicans as he pleased.
I agree with you about how they shouldn't try to alter the player quotas etc... But if they do buy a team they can name it whatever they want... If you shell out the cash, you can name it after yourself for all I care...
Well, they'd probably say Chivas was jealous of them... "“Son unos copiones... nos han copiado todo, ¡todo!”, afirma. “Ahora resulta que ellos fueron los de la idea, ahora resulta que a ellos se les ocurrió primero, ahora resulta que son los visionarios, son unos copiones, eso sí lo son”, asegura vía telefónica." A translation for sense rather than literally: "They're a bunch of copycats... they've copied everything from us-- everything! Now they're saying "oh it was our idea-- we thought of it first"-- now it's "we're the visionaries." They are copycats. Yes indeed they are" I think we can wait before we take this little spat too seriously.
“Nosotros no hablamos de cantidades, pero es menos, mucho menos que eso que dice”, respondió. We don't talk about the numbers, but we're investing less, much less than what he [Vergara] said" In other words, it might not take much (less than $10m) to convince Saint Phil to give up the Quakes if someone's willing to pay the bills.
Other outlets said CA was looking for an exsisting team with existing fanbases, etc. Doesn't sound like an outfit that would want to change the team name, IMHO. Sachin
OK a little lesson in Geography. Club America. See there is this continent called North "America". Which involves the USA MExcio and Canada. So Club America USA is a perfectly acceptable and a non redundant statement. Unless Mexico has become our 51st state or something like that. Think a little dont be so Amero-centric.
Sounds like they're not looking for the Quakes. (sorry... really I am-- I know it's not y'all's fault you have no front office)
Live with it?? Why?? If I was plunking down 15 millon for a club I would be doign damm well what I pleased with the name. IN fact the club should be named NOFANS UNITED. It fits the club the bext.
Yeah - it was an attempt at a joke, Jackass. Calling a team Club America United States of America just sounds stupid, even if they use the acronym USA. Well, I guess beggars can't be choosers and one team is rather interesting but I am less enthused about two teams in MLS named after existing Mexican League Clubs.
for me, here's the bottom line: I'm an earthquakes fan. Club America USA can go to hell. bye-bye season tickets.
Almost as stupid as going to an Automated Teller Machine Machine at a United Missouri Bank Bank in Kansas City.
lame... i have no problem about owners from other countries investing in MLS, but i think they need to realize this is not the Mexican League Part II. Club America USA? That makes me mad... will they also import their tacky uniforms too? MLS is an American league and as such should have an amercian feel/flavor to it... grrrrrrrr....
