Landon is answering the question, "What about Germany makes you excited about returning ?"

off topic, but i would not bring back goalies if they are too expensive... We can use that money bringing players at other positions....
Let's see Hannover Mainz Leverkusen, that 's 3 BL teams with Americans on them out of what, 18 teams?
    Anyway, good luck LD.....

I don't think he can learn anything. It seems to be the concensus around here that once you turn 23 you can't learn or develop anything relating to soccer. You just magically forgot how to learn ******** I guess. Well at least Donovan will have about 4 months to learn something about soccer in Germany before he turns 23 and magically forgets how to learn to kick a ball better.

Although there does seem to be an exception for players going over to Europe. They can learn new things after 23, but maybe not after 25. Maybe there's just a vortex over the US that stops players 23 and over from learning anything about soccer, I don't know. Ask Rommul, he knows the age limits when people can't learn things anymore.

You thought that back in mid-August... and in mid-September... yet both I and the Earthquakes are still in San Jose.

See ya at the San Jose Earthquakes games in 2005 and beyond.

By the looks of it Landon BEFORE even stepping onto German soil already put the excusses into play, not a bad idea considering what happened before...

"I'll give it a try!"- gotta love this statement. germany is just one of the top 5 leauges in the world, ahh what the hell I'll give it a try.....

"They have assured me am not going to prison."- IF BAYERN has to ASSURE that their institution is NOT A PRISON to a player why in the hell bring him back. SELL HIM TO MLS who will bend every letter in their already shaddy book to get him and keep him.

BOTTOM LINE. LD STOP CRYING! It's time to show is you really got it or don't. NO ONE QUESTIONS THAT LD has talent, he is among the best players in CONCACAF and one of the top 100 prospects of the Americas... BUT at 23 it's time to show the WORLD the USA has produced a world class player. Look at DMB, HE WANTED to go to europe and he is now on fire. MLS's best export to date is DMB... Can Landon follow? maybe maybe not. But it's time to put up or shut up... It's a double edge knife for LD. He's damned if he dose and he's damned if he don't... We'll see what happens, but LD MUST FIND THE HUNGER TO PLAY IN GERMANY OR IT'S GONNA BE A LONG RIDE TO HELL IF HE DOSEN'T!!!!

Hunger, shmunger. I'm pretty sure even if he tanks over there there's at a minimum some kind of purgatory awaiting in San Jose.

San JosEarthquakes will have a stadium of their own before Metro ever gets out of the Swamp. I'd be willing to bet on that.

However, Metro must get out of the Swamp into their own ground in NJ or NY -- not move to Philly or Houston or Atlanta. If that happened tomorrow, I wouldn't be surprised.

Good luck, Landon. If Earnie could learn to handle the long flights, so can you.

Have you ever had to do a conference call with reporters about something about which you're not particularly enthusiastic? That's what Landon was doing. I liked his attitude about being willing to play anywhere on the field, I think the team has the potential to move up the tables, and I think he could fit in to their style of play. All in all, this is a pretty good situation - but it certainly isn't one that he would pick out of a buffet of all the clubs in the world if he were a free agent right now.

The only part he seemed genuinely excited about was physically playing with the club. Which isn't a bad thing, but that was the only light i heard in his voice.

my god that was a long interview. :p

This must be huge. As of 6:40pm CST, Landon going to Germany is one of the 7 news headlines on Yahoo!

This ain't nothing but a bad idea, but one in which the lack of other choices makes it the only idea left to take. LD has to finish his contract in Bayer and get the hell out of there.

Personally, I think hew came of very matter of factly and probably less of a bitch than some of those dancing queens you call male players on River Plate

Landon's playoff form is what impresses me the most, 10 goals and 6 assists in 14 games, right now he's the fourth best player points wise in MLS playoff history with only four seasons of play.

I don't think its as much as developing his talent as much as it is about being asked to consistently perform to the best of his abilities, something that he did not do in MLS. Here, he sort of turned it on more depending on the game/situation. There were many games where he just went through the motions, something he won't be able to do in Germany because there will be two or three guys right behind him ready to take his spot. We'll miss him here in San Jose, but at the same time I wish him the best of luck ....

In the last few years River has produced Crespo, Saviola, Cavenaghi, and Maxi Lopez at forward and Gallardo, Ortega, Aimar,D'allesandro, and Mascherano in midfield amongst many others. Lets see how Landon ends up measuring up ....

It was that Paul Oberjung (sp?) guy for the San Bernardino Sun. He had predicted in the Tuesday morning paper that Landon would be announcing that he was staying in MLS - "why would MLS do a conference call to say he was leaving?"

Landon must have read it. "Paul, you were wrong."
