    A simple proposal:

None of us knows anything about the Donovan situation, we've all talked it to death, and we all can pretty much predict what everyone else will say.

Someone claims to have a conclusive bit of info or make some piece of wild speculation (Landon to Valencia, et al.), Olaf tells them their wrong (rightly), someone makes a crack about getting a sex change opporation, everyone goes off on that, Buff tells us all to grow up, people get nasty, Olaf tells us we're all wrong again (and is still right).

Fact is, none of us knows anything.

I propose that we resist posting anything, ANYTHING, about Landon Donovan until there is actual news about his situation. An article on soccernet.com, cybersoccernews.com., or kicker which rehashes everything that has already been said a thousand times, but maybe adds a new twist or a new quote to is doesn't count! Actual news would be one of the parties (Donovan, Agent, Calmund, Toppi) announcing (NOT SPECULATING, NOT MOUTHING OFF), but announcing at a press conference where Landon will be playing in the future.

Finally, let's not turn this thread into yet another 'my $0.02 abuot Donovan' sounding board. If you agree, just post your name and a SHORT comment like 'Gee, Eisern, Great Idea!' or 'Your an Idiot, Eisern, but I Like the Idea.'

What is Big Soccer but a sounding board for people who like to see themselves think?

(And I'm using the term "think" loosely.)

What are you proposing? Having the moderators close every thread about Landon that doesn't meet your criteria? Here's another thought for you: Just don't read the thread.

Sheesh, and I thought I was acting self-important on these boards... If I find a thread compelling, I post. If I find a thread interesting, I read it. If I'm bored, I click elsewhere. Three simple rules; anyone can try it.

Uh, no. Purely voluntary. Generally I agree with your sentiment, but the difference here is that we have a topic that's been talked at ad naseum with everyone pretty much repeating themselves over and over again. This actually makes it more difficult to find real news when real news finally breaks. Here's a though for you: if you don't like the idea, don't sign up to it.

Funny, I thought I was providing a SHORT comment along the lines of:

"You're an idiot, Eisern, and I don't like the idea."

Essentially, I was voting for a third option. :D

Don't know. I mean, until there is a final solution there won't be any news in your sense, but there'll be some steps happening in between. I propose that nobody posts anything that doesn't have to do with the new development in these articles [which mainly means: no talk about Landon as a person but just about the situation], but I know that it's too much for some

Why don't you just ask people to have a little respect for the President of the U.S. while you're at it?

just tried that with the thread I started remember? All I got for my troubles was the theory that Landon Donovan embodies the Ugly American traits that the world hates.

If action speaks louder than words... then I find myself in adament agreement with Eisern Union.

As he has clearly demonstrated, we need even more Yanks Abroad threads about Landon Donovan.

In fact, on days where there are no new articles about his contract situation, we need to have more threads like this one, places we can talk about talking about his contract. Whoever starts the next one, please make sure to put "Landon Donovan" or "LD" or even "savior" in the title so we'll all know where to look.

I cannot bring myself to agree. I mean, yeah, some cheeses are great. some of them really are. but to just say, I like cheese in such a blanket fashion, well, it just seems risky. I mean, what about gouda...
As for LD threads, when i want news, I go to the source. When I want innuendo, i log on.

IOW, Donovan's name should only be used in this room with the premission of Huss, BuffaloSoldier, Dark Knight, et al? Man, and I thought that Mathis was god...

(but, it is a good idea in theory, but I can't really see it working.)

Glad to see that not everyone thinks I'm an idiot. I proposed this with tounge firmly in cheek. Basically wanted to demonstrate just how ridiculous and tiring 99.9% of the posts on 'savior' have become. I don't claim to be any better about this than anyone else (I did suggest he join WUSA, after all), but it's getting a bit old now. To quote The Admiral: 'Ping Pong Match!'

as much as it annoys me as well, this is not a news site. If all the people who angrily write off 95% percent of stories/rumors/etc posted here as bullsh!t instead spent their time going to news sites, looking for the stories themselves, there would be a whole lot less bickering. This place just isn't built for clarity or brevity, everyone knows that.

i'm sure you do to, i don't mean to lecture or something. however, I find that it is usually fairly easy to separate the wheat from the chaff, as far as threads go, by about the third post. dealing with it is a small price to pay for this enormous net gathering in information from a million places we'd look.

sure, it's tiresome, and there are too many idiotic LD threads, but all you've done is add to that count. which is fine.
