Fontana. Ontario. Semantics. It's all just one big, undifferentiated patch of brown. ;)

And isn't all areas outside New York and west of the New Jersey Turnpike merely labeled "wilderness" anyways?

Tim - this is the USA Men's Board. Canadians aren't welcome. How are we supposed to know you're not going to sabotage Landon before a critical qualifier if Canada makes the hex this time, huh? HUH?

(sigh) I guess we'll have to trust you.

It always seems to weird to me - and I'm not saying in a bad way - that we have this star of the U.S. Soccer world, playing in a world cup, appearing on Leno and Kilborn and stuff, and his dad posts on an internet messageboard without being anonymous. Kind of cool, actually.

Clint Mathis's mom used to drop by too, under the name of MetroMom. Would tell cute little stories that would start off "When Clint was 7, ..." Clint probably got too embarrassed and told her to stop. :)

Plus, if we're talking celebrities, my kid's game is the talk of his 4th grade class. I mean, he can 'meg them all. So I count too, don't I?

Actually there are a few of the Nats parents who frequent these boards. but most stay anonymous, right Bill? :)

Neato. I'm sure some of the players stop by then. It would suck if someone like Kirovski or Stewart came by, though. I'm sure they're used to criticism, but damn, some people on BS can be pretty mean. ;)

IMHO, they probably take the more prudent approach. Having a parent openly defend a player on this board is a no-win situation.

Re: Re: Re: Landon Donovan isn't Canadian

It's only a no-win situation if people are being unfairly critical of a player just for the sake of it.

In my opinion, if we all imagined that the parent of a player might be reading what we write about them, we would wind up with a consistently higher level of dialogue, rather than meanspirited insults of players. These can occassionally be funny, but more often than not, are recycled, boring, and add little to the discussion.

However, since Landon is clearly above all criticism, I'm sure Tim feels safe here.

OK, maybe that last part was an exaggeration.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Landon Donovan isn't Canadian

LD may be above all criticisms to some posters. I am not sure that all posters find him faultless and thus above all criticisms. I think it was a no-win situation when Mr. Donovan came on this board and criticised the decision of LD's coach (for example), even if Mr. Donovan's points were of high merit.
