Landon Danovan, one of the best young soccer players in the US also speaks perfect Spanish. The question is how did he get to speak Spanish so well and chose to play soccer. He answered that question in a Spanish TV interview where he said that while growing up he had many Mexican friends who thaught him the language and introduced him to the game of soccer.
Mia Ham, undoubtedly, the best female soccer player also said that while growing up in Texas she was influenced by watching Mexican soccer on TV. The moral of the story is that if we want soccer to be succesful in the US, Mexican and US fans should join forces together instead of arguing with each other as I see in many threads in this forum.

I think you are correct in stating that US soccer players have a lot that Mexican soccer can teach them. Even though the US team has beaten the Mexican (Men's) team regularly of late, the Mexican team still displays better individual ball skills at most/all positions, and I think the Mexican league plays at a higher level than MLS at current.

Problem is, I don't really think there is a desire on behalf of mexican players or fans to make that a two way street. American Hockey players have learned tons from Canadians over the years, because the relationship between the two is a friendly one. Americans go to Azteca and get bags of urine thrown at them. American teams play Mexican teams in the US, and Mexican fans throw bottles at players and fans. This is not the basis of a friendly relationship.

I think when you get the MLS teams owned by Mexican interests (chivas, club america) it will be another chance for Mexican players and fans to influence American soccer. It clearly has influenced it to this point (Ramos, etc), but I don't think it has made the impact it could have or should have, and I think you have to look at the attitude of some Mexican players and fans as to why. I think there are Americans willing to learn from them, but are they willing to teach? Got me. Clearly Landon Donovan met a number of kids who were, and it helped him. If we find more kids like that, the relationship between Mexican and American fans can grow. If not, we will continue to argue and hate each other. I think US fans have recently gotten to the point where, as we are beating Mexico with frequency, no longer think we need to learn from Mexicans, especially if they are going to treat us as they often do.
