The combination of Aerosmith & Run DMC doing "Walk This Way." YAAAAWN! The 2nd or 3rd Woodstock. The "discovery" of "grunge" Prince. He's talented but his music never quite "hit" me. Same with Michael Jackson.
All you people are blasphemous. No, I agree. I'm a huge Nirvana fan and consider them one of the Top 3 bands of the 90's, but grunge just ended up being a fad and they didn't/won't have the lasting effect on music the way the Beatles had. My insignificant moment is Sinead O'Connor ripping up the picture of the pope. Sure, it was shocking, but that was it. Nothing less, nothing more.
The Benny Goodman band's now-legendary trip to California in 1935. Of course, I wasn't even alive at the time, so there ya go...
The Rolling Stones (Even though seeing them get blown away by the Who on their own TV special is a great moment) Pink Floyd - "The Wall"
Jerry Garcia's death........ never liked the band.....hated most of the fans....glad it ended...... except of course for Phish and now 'The Dead' touring......let the petule go guys.....
nirvana/kurt cobain's legacy has little if anything to do with the so-called legacy of grunge - focus instead on the melodies, the honesty, the pain and the apparent fact that music was the only way he could share it with anyone - im still angry at him for quitting, still love him for the short, intense stay - if the loud stuff leaves ya cold, try the acoustic album - if that doesnt help, i dont know what else to say and the stones?!?!? - well theyre only just the greatest bar band ever
ANYTHING to do with Madonna. Sorry, you're Kiss with a rack...NEXT! The Eagles reuniting for their Hell Freezes Over Tour. Gee, you think their going to play Hotel California???? Fleetwood Mac reuniting for The Dance. Sorry, it ain't a REAL Fleetwood Mac reunion unless Nicks and Buckingham take a hike, and Peter Green, Danny Kirwan and Jeremy Spencer come back. Backbeat
I don't particularly like the Grateful Dead, but I do like Phish. I've never understood why people think they sound alike. I'm not picking on you Todd, but I think 99% of people just say that because they've heard somebody else say it. I also wonder how so many people can claim to hate bands that aren't on radio or MTV. Unless you're buying their albums to discover you hate them, you should rarely come in contact with either.
I don't think they sound the same....I think the fans are the same..... I have heard enough of both bands to form an opinion....although, I do know what you are saying...Phish isn't terrible...the dead bores me....but, its the fans that I can't stand.... Much like Yankee fans...I hate the fans so much, I can't stomach the team.
I'm right there with you on the fans. Phish concerts became a lot less fun after Jerry Garcia died. All of a sudden there was this freaking circus outside of the concerts that wasn't really too bad before (it was at least ignorable.) Now, my friends and I don't even really like seeing them live because of the people you have to put up with. As I always tell people, "I'm a Phish fan, but one that is employed (full-time), bathes daily and doesn't use drugs." It often seems there aren't many of us that fit that description.
Gosh, sounds like my experience. I've seen Phish about 10-12 times. Towards the end of 97 I just couldn't stomach the fans anymore. It completely ruined the experience for me. It's bad enough goiung to oversized ampitheaters and paying 10 bucks for parking, but when there are over 1000 people doing the same thing, without tickets and selling just horribly made tshirts and food it gets aggrivating as hell. I can't even describe it. I never really been a fan so much of teh studio albums, but I loved the live sound, and it got to the point where I couldn't even listen to them cause all I could remember was the parking lot circus. Now after 6 years I am considering going to a shpw again this summer. We'll see if it actually happens.
