Losing Lancaster within the division is a really tough blow. Shriver played well enough last season to earn a better opportunity and he seems determined to find it, hopefully we can find someone to replace him.
Well according to that link no offer was made to Shriver and the Swedish club signed another forward. Shriver says he has no other offers in Europe. While he seems to badly want to play in Europe, he'll probably have to prove himself in D1 in our neck of the woods before he gets a decent look there. I guess the next question is are any MLS teams even interested in him? Ironically, MLS might be at a higher level than Sweden's top division. He could always come back here if there isn't any.
Welcome to minor league soccer. Rosters change every year. Even if you have a club option on a player, he could still wind up in a MLS camp for a trial. You have to build a new team basically every year. A number of fringe players were just let go by MLS clubs. Some will get picked up other MLS clubs. Others will have to play in D2 or D3 if they want to continue their careers. The cycle then starts over.
I have no problem with Martyn going to Atlanta. The fans will miss him, but he's based in ATL, and just had a baby(got to meet her after the PR playoff home leg when Marty made his usual trek out to the tailgate to say hi). It'll be much better for him for family reasons. This is the life of minor league soccer here. Even if you have a good team there is gonna be a good deal of player turnover. No incentive for players to stay and no real incentive for teams to hold on to them with no promotion/relegation at stake. The best guys will move up to bigger and better things. Gotta bring in the next class of good young kids.
