Gerrard may retire in 2016 http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/34710492 I just saw this.....what a joke.... Didn't we call it last year? Again, we don't need anymore 35+ year old forwards.
This has to be the most baffling statement from the article: "Going on the road, playing on [artificial] turf, playing at altitude, playing in humidity, those are the hurdles that I've had to face over the last three months that I wasn't aware of." Really, Stevie? You had no idea those things would be in store for you in your American experience? What the hell had your agent been telling you?
Maybe I'm reading between the lines too much, but does it sound as though somebody, maybe his agent or maybe someone else, had spent too much time reading the British tabloids and had convinced him that MLS was a stroll in the park. This reminds me a bit of the fans (I think they might have been Dutch) who complained during the 1994 World Cup that they were unaware that the travel distances were going to be so long. They apparently had never looked at a map.
I hope it happens before the MLS season starts. As excited as I was when I heard he was coming in, I can't wait for him to leave. He was shockingly poor in must-win games for LA, including the knock-out vs. Seattle. He just doesn't seem to have it anymore and I think it'd only embarrass everyone to trot him out for a whole season.
Steven Gerrard set for amazing return to Liverpool after holding talks with Jurgen Klopp http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...holding-talks-with-jurgen-klopp-a6720306.html
"Hollywood and Bling Bling Parties...Stevie....just one big Phat Pleasure Island!" That's what his agent was telling him....
That is/was the general perception across Europe. At least it when I lived there. Obviously, if it were, stars like Lampard, Gerrard , Pirlo etc would have coasted through it. The leagues doesn't have the funds to buy top players but it is far from an "easy league" to play in and I think more and more are finding that out.
Surely you're mistaken, it is only backwards Americans who never learn geography. Bet you can't pinpoint Georgia on a map
I have a feeling he will seek a transfer during the January window. If I were the Galaxy, I'd sell him and make a profit , especially if Liverpool are willing to pay. Its either that or risk not getting anything for him a year from now. Also, if he is already complaining after only 13 games, can't see how he will be all that committed. Steven Gerrard set for amazing return to Liverpool after holding talks with Jurgen Klopp Here is a Soccer America article. Gerrard doesn't paint a rosy picture, but ...
Hmmm, could this be Stevie's swansong? "Bravely bold Sir Gerrard Rode forth from Liver-pot He was not afraid to cry Oh, brave Sir Gerrard. He was not at all afraid To fly in nasty ways Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Gerrard. He was not in the least bit scared To be stashed into an airbus Or to have his passports checked And his elbows squeezed. To have his kneecaps splint And his body probed And his limos hot and spanglished. Brave Sir Gerrard! Brave Sir Gerrard ran away Bravely ran away away When Dallas reared its ugly head, Seattle attacked with turf of dread, Portland left his balls all shred, He bravely turned his tail and fled. Yes, brave Sir Gerrard turned about And gallantly he chickened out Bravely taking to his feet He beat a very brave retreat Bravest of the brave, Sir Gerrard!"
Wahhhh! Soccer in America is haaarrrddd! Wahhhh!!! Sounds like my 6 year old a few weeks ago when it got cold while she was playing in a game and wanted to come off the field.
gerrard expected his star status would make it a cake-walk in MLS- and really, after all he has accomplished, does he really need another year in MLS- of course, an easy pay cheque of $6 mill plus might just be an incentive, but then he would look more classless like lampard has done with NYCFC- it wont get any better in 2016- its more to do with his interest and motivation, both lacking this year; i wouldnt be surprised if robbie keane also called it quits in MLS MLS would be better served if gerrard, pirlo and lampard never set foot on MLS turf in 2016- the chance of getting another drogba will be rare- better to use your finances to get younger stars
Andy Edwards from NBC Sports: It’s pretty hard to believe that Gerrard wouldn’t have been made aware of the fact that games are played on turf, at altitude and/or in humid conditions. One would like to think the Galaxy learned quite a bit from David Beckham’s tedious integration into MLS eight years ago. There’s also the fact that Gerrard is friends with Robbie Keane (the two played together at Liverpool and have been seen together frequently in LA), who would surely have taken the responsibility of helping his new teammate settle into his new life as seamlessly as possible. The whole thing is quite strange coming from Gerrard. At the very least, he needs to know that he was not only not good enough for the Galaxy in 2015, but also that he actively hurt his team on a regular basis. They were a worse team with him on the field, which is a damning indictment of someone taking home $6.3 million per season. http://soccer.nbcsports.com/2015/11/02/gerrard-wasnt-aware-of-certain-challenges-hed-face-in-mls/
and stevie would only embarrass himself by coming back to the Galaxy in 2016- take the high road, stevie, and go back to liverpool in some capacity- LA should just release him and save over $6 mill- dickering for some money to do it is just not worth it IMO
I remember when ESPN got that question wrong. (They showed the state flag of Georgia in a graphic when doing highlights of a match including the Georgian National Team)
