I agree. Its ok to have different types of team names. But the FC moniker is not exactly the best type of branding. FC Dallas IMHO struggles to have a lasting brand imprint and Toronto FC just does not have great success on the field.

However people forget that LAFC is just a placeholder. The fans are going to have a chance to vote on colors and team name. The whole generic logo and outlay screams that it is a work in progress. Now if the fans vote for LAFC that is another story. Regardless of the name, I have concerns about the success in the long run of this team.

19,194 now. No doubt if LAFC builds a proper stadium people will support.

I agree. The only other name that I think of that could be a realistic possibility is if the new ownership buys the rights to use the name "Hollywood United." If you want a vanilla nickname, how about the "Red Devils"?

If not the Aztecs, how about other names from LA soccer history?

    LA Wolves?

Wonder if the same people are signing up more than once using different usernames and from different IP addresses? :)

I'm thinking something along the lines of "Los Angeles Athletic FC" (LA Athletic, or Athletic, for short). And if we're going to go canine, I'd suggest this creature, who inhabits many of our hills and neighborhoods.

I'm not so sure about your thoughts on FC (and I'm including SC). Columbus Crew SC has done well on and off the field, no? Seattle Sounders FC has had one of the more lively fan bases, and has done very well since joining the MLS. The Vancouver Whitecaps FC haven't done poorly, coming near play-offs each of the last few seasons when they've missed it. Chicago Fire SC certainly has a record of good fan and team records. FC Dallas has played well since changing their name, making the play-offs more often than not, although I can't speak to their fan base, I'm not sure Also Orlando City SC is moving to MLS BECAUSE they have a big fan base (and other factors, but fan base is one of them). Not to mention the other "euro-style" team names like United, Union, RSL, Sporting and Dynamo which have had good fan bases and records on the field. Sure, TFC has played poorly, missing the play-offs each year, but there's a big fan base. I'm not advocating or LAFC as the team name, but I wouldn't mind seeing LA (nickname) FC, or something like Stars FC (preferably something better, but don't mind a name that leaves out LA all together). I just don't think you can claim that the teams with FC/SC have done poorly on and off field

I meant teams with only the name of the city plus FC or SC. Seattle Sounders FC doesn't bother me for instance. It's not the FC or AC or whatever, it is the lack of creativity.

Studio City or North Hollywood would be better. But they're probably talking about Porter Ranch or Chatsworth, where there's a bunch of open land.

Over 30k on their mailing list now, btw.

Not sure you can compare the two eras. BigSoccer much different in 2001 than today.

Okay, so TFC and FC Dallas, not a big sample size. My point is still valid. One of those teams has been good, the other not so much, you can't conclude that it has anything to with the name. By that math I could say that LA teams are a bad idea because half have been folded in the last few days, or many other outlandish ideas.

Just thought I would throw this together for their generic LAFC name. Reason I added the name Rogue Nation is because of the 2nd photo being associated with the team already, which I cant confirm, it was posted on the MLS fb page.
    Los Angeles Rogues FC?

I said as much when I first mentioned it. Still, the lack of creativity rings true.
