While I know there are plenty of American women plying their trade in European leagues, there seems to be growing trend - as of last week - of USWNT players heading to Europe. USWNT players have traditionally played at home with an occasional short-term loan to Europe. These ladies have 1-yr deals but supposedly are looking to extend their time. Is it time to start covering them? So far......... Sam Mewis to Man City Rose Lavelle to Man City Emily Sonnett to Goteborg FC On the brink...... Christen Press - Man United Tobin Heath - Man United Several non-Americans have left the NWSL for Europe in the last few weeks and it's been reported several other USWNT players are headed across the pond.
We've seen a number go to Australia in the off-season. I think the European leagues have shied away from short term loans but hopefully this gets Europe more involved in getting Americans playing professionally. Still far too many leaving the college game without a home so they retire too early.
