For those of you who don't venture to the G boards.

Boca jugará la Interamericana en octubre - Ole

It's in Spanish but says the match will be October 16th in LA. Not sure if this is a one off or not.

Still, 4 day's before a possible MLS Cup final and 8 before the USOC Final....we could be spreading ourselves a bit thin here.

And when would we finish the semifinal if it goes three games? 3rd match of the semi's often happen midweek before the final on the weekend. Is this really confirmed?

This is speculation as the playoff schedule has not been announced, but last year's playoff schedule had to be compressed for reasons everyone is aware of. This year, there should be a full week between the (if necessary) game 3 of the semifinal series and MLS Cup.

My good wife is calling the LAG ticket office to see if they know anything about this supposed match with Boca. Anybody want to make book about this actually coming off? Why do I have a strange feeling that we will not really see this happen (although I would love to be wrong).

Cadaver, you should know better than to call the ticket office on things like this. They won't have a clue about this match until it actually is in their ticketing system. (if it ever makes it that far) ;)

If there is a scheduling problem, Boca may be amenable to another date. They could probably use the pay day and may be flexible about moving their domestic commitments. Clubs in Brazil and Argentina will usually play anywhere anytime for a check that won't bounce.

The Ole story about the 78 edition of this cup between Boca and America is great. Boca had the cup won on aggregate goals on a two-legged home and home series. But then America offered to play a third game, at the Azteca. Boca felt confident -and probably wanted the extra cash that the third game would generate - and accepted the offer to make it a best of three series. America won the third game in added-on time and won the cup. :)

Is it really the InterAmerica Cup if it is played when both teams are no longer continental champions?

Is it really the Champs Cup when half the teams qualified two years previously?

I saw Boca play on Sunday on FSW. They won 2-0, and while they played with some typical Argentinean and Latin flair, they didn't appear to be nearly as formidable as I remember from last season. Their ball skills are still a zillion times better than your average MLSer, but they didn't look particularly menacing (though their defense was solid).

    Just my anecdotal .02...

LA should do just fine if they field their first team. Boca sold off its best players after the Libertadores in 01. They won the Apertura in 00 when they had Palermo, but haven’t finished higher than 3rd since. They also haven’t had a top five scorer since Palermo, although Hector Bracamonte is looking pretty good. Carlos Alberto Tevez was becoming their next big-time No. 10, but he was apparently injured in a car accident last night and it’s not yet clear how long he may be out.

Btw, Boca plays Gimnasia (yeah, them again) in the Copa Sudamericana tonight (Weds 9/11) at 8 ET on FSWE.

so i guess this match isn't happening then, huh?

If it does, MLS should make an effort to have either Univision or Telemundo broadcast it, IMO.

what do you expect after they sold their best players? give tevez and their young players a year or 2 more of experience and they will be back as the best of the continent

When DC defeated Vasco da Gama in the Intramerica Cup, it was played, home and away. Vasco da Gama choose to play both games in the USA.
This year it looks like its a one game affair. How can you schedule a game in the middle of the playoff, I just don't understand.

I don't know. Boca played DCU in a friendly a couple months ago (with at least some of their first team)--and it was literally the worst game I have ever seen. It ended 0-0, and both teams were awful. I don't care how young they are... they stunk.

The only reason why that game ended 0-0 is because it was impossible for the scoreboard to register negative goals.

    Worst. Match. Ever.
