So, does anyone think that it is possible that MLS or the Galaxy gained any respect from the tournament? I live in England and nobody hear gives any credit to either the Norweigan or Russian leagues, but is it possible that people in Norway and maybe Russia may give us more credit or are the normal excuses there (friendly, not our real team, etc.)? Seems to me these tournaments could act as a small step (albeit very small) for MLS to gain some respect. What do you all think?

i have no idea how it's respected there

i just know it's a preseason tournament and both mls teams appeared to be treating it as such

ruiz never played (with nats)... donovan was sent home early... they both played a lot of new people

I think any aftermath of the La Manga Cup would be overstated.

No credit to the Russian leagues? Watch a couple games; for example the final two games of Lokomotiv Moskva in the UEFA Champion's League. You'll believe when you watch a no-name team that people don't give credit to hold off the likes of AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, and Real Madrid. You'll see... ;)

It would have been nice to win all four rather than three of four, but try to put this in perspective. This was pre-season training for all the clubs involved. The games were a about as meaningful as NFL training camp scrimmages against other clubs. It looks like all sides were looking at a variety of players and doing the the other stuff that happens in training camp. Nice, but don't read more into it than that.

I damn well do. Go check out the Eastern Europe board. There are a few of us over there. Now that I've been blonde, please tell me you're being sarcastic and that I'm just really imperceptive.

    quoi?

Most Europeans don't have much respect for the quality of play in the domestic leagues in Brazil, Argentina, or Mexico. Expecting respect for MLS is a bit ambitious.

    Why would it matter anyway?

Nope. I don't give a rat's ass about Norweigan or Russian soccer leagues.

How much respect can be gained by finishing seventh and third? Rosenborg is a Euro alsoran more often then not and they won it. Not much to respect (internationally) in my opinion.

The only good to come of it from an MLS persprctive would be to have MLS teams visible somewhere else in the world. At some point a "critical mass" is reached that will enhance MLS' ability to draw (and retain) talent from those regions of the world.
