I guess I'll start this up. The road to the Double begins Wed. out of all nights. Add KC to this factor and I'm expecting a low turnout unfortunately. We'll need to start off right with a win; we can't get too overconfident.
I am scared of this matchup only because Kansas City has no problem with playing for three 0-0 ties. They are not good enough to beat us if they open their game, but they won't and that worries me a bit.
They'll try and play back, we'll get a goal off of a corner kick, they still play back and cobi will knock in a goal off of a elliot cross. They'll sit back, and the game will end 2-0 to the good guys. Crowd of about 7000.
KC can't seem to get over their rep. They have not been playing Bunker Bob Ball this year, and unless they change their approach in the playoffs I do not see it happening. I expect KC to be professional and "up" for the game - I am just afraid LAG will have an emotional let-down after the two-game series with SJ. Game one is ripe for an upset, but I think LAG will prevail in the series. I expect it to be much tougher than a 1 v. 8 series would figure to be.
Cadaver, I'm not saying KC is playing bunker ball, but they are not above taking the air out and NOT playing for the win. That scares me a bit. Plus, a very hot Meola could be dangerous.
I agree that KC would probably be satisfied to leave the RB with a tie, but I do not think they will set out with the intent of getting a tie. I expect they will have the same mindset going into the Wed game at the RB that LAG did in SJ. Try to win, but when in doubt, don't gamble. On the other hand, I do think they will see game 2 as a must win for themselves. They hardly want to be in a mini-game on the road. MAybe at home, but not on the road. And yes, Meola can get hot at the most inconvenient times. If he does, I hope LAG remembers to go for the near post.
I'm afraid the league needs the Galaxy to win. It's going to be a Korea-Spain type situation. Based entirely on merit, KC would have no problems with the one dimensional Galaxy. But the Wizards are fighting the officials, the league, and Anchutz, who wants to make a bundle next year. I just hope KC looks at it like they're down by 1 going in. I can't see even Ruiz scoring off Meola in a game that really counts. We need one goal, you'll get the phony PK or the 1 disallowed and hopefully we can pull it through.
If you and KC really believed that crud, why not just give up now? Save yourself a lot of trouble and possible injury. LAG could use a rest after those two games against SJ. All I hope is that your defeatist attitude correctly reflects the mindset of the KC players.
The interesting, but possibly worthless, fact is LA has 9 losses this season and KC has 10. While it is true that KC has won many games, many postseasons come down to "not losing". If a game is tied late, and we insert Burns and/or Brunt for attacking players, we're screwed and you guys are gonna win that game. One tie gets us to game 3. This series has "mini-game" written all over it. Four our sake, we'll take PKs as the Wizards are 0-5-21 in MLS OT periods. The only golden goals in franchise history are the 2000 mini-game (still the greatest moment in Wizards history), and this year's Open Cup comeback against Rochester. The other scenario has you crushing us. It seems like everyone but LA and KC fans expects you guys to spank us. I expect a tight series. I still have nightmares over Califf's golden goal from 2000. It should be a good series.
I would adore a sweep here, to give us a week rest before taking on either Colorado or Dallas. I think it's possible to get a couple of one-goal wins, but more likely we're looking at winning the home games. The recent close games against San Jose obscured how the Galaxy have been gut-shooting the league's other teams at Pasadena. Kansas City would have to play obscenely well to get a win on the road. I see the likely outcome as win-tie-win for LA, or else win-lose-win. The Galaxy couldn't possibly be more confident at the moment - we'll see whether it's overconfidence or not. As far as the Galaxy being overdue to lose at home, not having done so since April - well, the Galaxy are overdue to win a championship, so our law of averages trumps yours. The other nice thing about home field is how handy it comes when the team gets, say, one point in two games against a team that on paper is wildly overmatched. The Mathis-less Metrostars had everything under control going into game three, and look what happened. If there's been a mini-game won by the visiting team, I don't remember it.
That scoreline isn't going to happen. Meola hasn't been in 2000 form. KC's D hasn't SO anyone good since July. The way LA's defence is playing KC will do well to get the 1, much less the 2/3 they will need to win.
We are rivlas like the didgers and falcons are rivals. We dont blame KC for beating us. They had a game killer in Molnar who no longer plays. We have a getter defense a better golie a beter mid and an outstanding forward. The only way KC will survive is by bunkering in the RB, which is not uncommon. With one goal that we score they will have to open up. By the way we shut out Ariel, Donovan and Derosario thrise in a row and KC with no disrespect , do not carry that kind of fire power. We will be strong but not nieve we will attack but not haphazzardly. Our last advantage is many players who have seen many big games and know what it takes. We will take the cup this year. i have 1 benjamin to who ever think they can beat my Galaxy in a series.
my galaxy can beat yours anywho, i think we'll kick the sh!t outta KC. i'd be surprised if this series even goes to a third game. i smell a double peoples
What??? Only the club championship for the entire CONCACAF region. But thank you for continuing to enrich this board with your keen observations and subtle insights. hee hee hee hee
I posed this question once, could someone please give me a link of a radio station that does webcasts of the LA games? I don't have TV coverage at school. Thanks in advance.
Ben, Local radio broadcasts of the LAG games are on KSPN, the ESPN outlet in LA. I do not know if they stream their broadcasts over the web, but I would suggest you go to the station's web site and check there. If they don't, I do not think there is any other source of a webcast.
I've been trying, but the audience isn't receptive to the truth. I'll try again: As I've explained several times, I'm not talking about friendlies. If you want to aim high, you can say that the Galaxy are the Red Sox, post Babe Ruth. So far, the Galaxy are 6 time losers. Can't wait for #7 to happen. MLS Cup or bust!
Dear mr Ben Reilly I see that you like living with the glory of the past and will try and hold that high. I do believe that The KC- Pride parade had a few off years but you have conviniently forgotten that, and you were the worst team to qualify. As far as LA being loosers, hmmm... Concacaf Champs, US open cup, Western Champs, and finalist three times. But what will you do when we pick up the treble. Or when we beat Boca Juniors for the inter america cup. The only team which was better than us is DC and that is on its way out. My respect for Kansas City is almost non existant. YOU ARE NOT OUR RIVALS, WE DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE YOU AND YOU ILLUSIONS OF GRANDURE MAKES YOU NOTHING MORE THAN A SECOND RATE TEAM WHO IS TRYING TO BE AN ELITE CLUB WITHOUT ANY JUSTIFICATION FOR THAT TITLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! PS- Morelia??
Because who could have been friendlier this year than the Wizards, handing free passes to the Crew and Monarcos like that?
Galaxy are great at winning when the game is meaningless. When it comes time for the Big Show, Galaxy crumbles while the Wizards were true champions. Let me know when your team is on the Frosted Flakes box, ok? There are four teams that are completely superior to Galaxy: Chicago, DC, Kansas City, and San Jose. If you want to make a case for #5 go ahead, but I'd pick the Burn for #5. The Crew for #6. Maybe you're #7. I will hope you win the friendly against Boca Juniors just for the sake of MLS. I doubt Boca will try very hard, but it's kind of a lose-lose situation and you may as well win the game. Lastly, don't forget that you support a team that is the embodiment of all that is EVIL.
