LA @ KC 5/24 Pre-Game Thread I hate LA... Now with that out of the way, this one is our fireworks spectacular for the year and if we lose or tie, it will be out fireworks asstacular for the year. I am predicting a tie here however. This game will be TAPE DELAYED on ESPN2 @ 12:00am CST for those who can't be there in person @ 7:00pm kickoff. LA is usually a pretty good attendance draw in and of itself then sprinkle in some firecrackers and we should have a good turnout. Let's hope the weather holds. LA always plays us a tough and heated battle and as always were not seeing the killer instinct in our games to put some teams away early. That is probably what we'll need to do against them. The longer they hang around close the more likely Fish or LaLa-s will come up with something to even it up. LA is on there second to last away game before the TOOL Box opens June 7th. They are flat right now and still haven't won a game (0-2-4). KC does not need to be their first win or 5th tie. KC needs to start pulling away on some points in the conference before LA gets their home advantage rolling down the stretch and building their confidence. Now is probably the best time to meet them this season and pull out a deserved win. A win would put us 9 points up on them in the division and one point below Sad Jose who is idle this weekend. Sad to say but we just don't have as many points right now as we should considering the number of games we've played. At the time of this thread the injury report has not been updated but lets hope Wolff and Igor are ready to go for the homestand on this one. For the D&D breakdown read below: SIGI [+5 knowledge, -6 movement] and his GIANTS' WARSANDWICH [+7 nutrition, -2 energy, with a +3 chance to spit watermellon seeds between front teeth] will try to eat its way through an all too porous (but improving) KC DEFENSE [-2 longshot defense, -2 vs fast forwards, +3 attacking posture]. If we can hold EL FLOPADOR [+5 finishing, +5 fouling, +5 movement] from wielding his MOLESTER MUSTACHE[+2 movement, + 3 diving-except when in penalty area then +7, -3 if used as Garcia's b!tch] during the game, then we might have a chance for a WIN [+5 attendance, +3 chance of Pappa Johns Magic Minutes, +3 confindence for Gansler] for all the FANS [+2 cheering, +2 chance of returning] that represented in ARROWHEAD [-3 atmosphere, +4 seat selection] that night. Anyway... Discuss... GO WIZARDS!!! Mods please sticky, Thank you.
Um Wizards 2-1 Farbro, Talley, Sissy Victorine with goals. We tend to get up and play well at home againts LA.
Dunno about the D&D breakdown, I gave that up about 20 years ago whn I learned that all the girls were playing outside. Anyway... I will say that the Papa John's promo is more overdue that a gal in her fourth trimester. To the game: Weather expected is good, low 70's and only partly cloudy. LA last outing -Kevin Hartman, Danny Califf, Alexi Lalas, Tyrone Marshall, Ezra Hendrickson, Mauricio Cienfuegos (Ricky Lewis 69), Cobi Jones, Hong Myung-Bo (Jose Retiz 78), Sasha Victorine, Gavin Glinton (Simon Elliott 64), Carlos Ruiz. KC-Tony Meola, Carey Talley, Nick Garcia, Jimmy Conrad, Chris Klein, Francisco Gomez, Preki, Kerry Zavagnin, Alex Zotinca (Davy Arnaud 87), Chris Brown (Stephen Armstrong 70), Eric Quill. For LA, still winless into Game 7 of the 8-game roadie. Glinton is gone on red card susp. - Good for KC, you should remember Glinton had the OT winner in LA's first trip here in '02. Ruiz, compared to expectations, has been largely ineffective and is taking heat for laziness of all things on the LA board. Bo-Hong has been moved around of late and could be many places in the lineup. Only Hartman's play has been consistently high. KC has few options and will probably trot out the same starting 11. Only Brown v Armstrong remains a possibility. Of note is that LA was stomped in the last visit to KC, only scoring on the pathetic restart while Meola's back was turned. With LA in generally poor form, on the brutal road trek, KC's improved defense of late, and KC being unbeaten in 4 games I see this going one of two ways: If KC can't keep their opportunities on frame a tie will happen. If KC can put shots on frame, LA will yield early and maybe often for a blowout. If Tony trot's out the "A" game, a SO might happen. Either way KC should again score first and LA probably will also. KC 3-1
Get this, LA lost to A-league startup Milwaukee Wave United. 1-0. I haven't seen the lineup, but I'm sure it was LA's bench v Milwaukee. MWU starts 5 players from the MISL Wave team that lost the final including the Dusoski thugs, er, twins; Digital Takawira, and also the Comets' own Dino Delevski. Speaking of Dino, he pulled 2 yellows so Milwaukee finished with 10-men!
Ezra Hendricksen is suspeneded for the match, not Glinton. We looked so much better with Cienfuegos in the lineup, and we need Ruiz to have a breakout game.
I have always been shocked at how LA fans love Cienfuegos that dude an old hack who is no longer effective. Why do you have that blind devotion towards that fossil?
Cienfuegos may be on the wrong side of 50, er, 30 but he knows how to run an offense. Yes, his skills have dimished and defense is not his strength, but he knows what to do with the ball when he gets it. No one else in the C-midfield seems to have a clue on how to transition the ball and set up the forwards.(1) Footnotes: (1) Our last game vs. Dallas
Yes, the Galaxy fans are right on this one. I dont know if you have MLS Shootout, but I do and I watched the LA/Dallas game last week (after the Wizards game was over). You could visibly see their team improve from having Cein back on the field. Just like Preki, he's and old creative midfielder, but hes good at it. I can't stand the guy, just like Ruiz, for his diving and rolling tactics, but hes good. For the game, Ezra being out is a very good thing for us. He is a pain in the ass to any team LA plays. Hopefully the Wizards can A) field a team of our regular starters and B) get and hold a lead. I still have a bitter taste in my mouth from last years playoffs and the overtime loss at home last season. I HATE LA! I would rather lose 4 games to Colorado than lose one to LA. (ok, thats exaggeration, but you get the point.) I fear LA right now, because they haven't won a game and they are too good a team (on paper) to be winless right now. They were about 3 minutes away from a win last weekend, and will be looking to build on that strong performance. It's usually physical vs. LA, so lets hope Zotinca stays on the bench. With fireworks, and nice weather, I see no reason to not have a good crowd. Predicted lineup (before reading any injury updates) Meola Conrad-Garcia-Talley Gutierrez/Gomez-Zavagnin Klein-Preki-Quill/Gutierrez Igor-Wolff
Is the tailgate going to be standard Burger and Brat fare, or something else? Side dish possibilities abound, but I need to know what's up for the main dish.
I seem to remember God hating the Galaxy as well. ANYTHING could happen this game. Who knows what LA will do? Who knows who's healthy for KC. Who knows what our defensive alignment will be? Should be quite interesting.
Preview now up on MLSNet.com http://mlsnet.com/games/03/tracker.php?gamename=05242003_LAKC&version=preview Igor is listed as probable (Calf Strain) but Wolff is still Questionable with the Hammy. Diego Questionable as well. LA has Hendrickson on a Red Card suspension which I kinda like. It seems he's had a knack for giving us trouble and scoring a time or two. Simon Elliot is gone with his Nat team. There's a fracture in Herculez Gomez foot. That and it appears their Kids In The Hall aquistition has a torn ACL. More updates on the 9's to keep you informed.
Tyrone Marshall is also away for the Galaxy with the Jamaican National Squad. KC fans should not rejoice in EZ being out this weekend. His play has sucked ass this year. He is not nearly the threat going forward that he has been before. And how about fossils? Preki has to be an AARP member by now. I remember watching him with the Comets back when the LA Lazers were around in 84 or 85. Could he have the strangest shaped head in the League?
Probably, reminds me of one of those plugs they hammer in to barrels of beer and wine. Another one is McBride. His parents must've tied him to a board as an infant while his soft palat was developing. The back of his head goes straight up from the shoulders resembling the skull formation of an alpha male silver back gorrilla when standing.
I don't care what Preki's head looks like as long as he makes it a long night for LA. For once, I want to have a good win on "fireworks" night!!! I say it will be KC 3-1.
To be a fossil you have to sit around and do nothing under pressure for a long period of time. LA Galaxy's season stats 4 goals and 3 assists. Preki's season stats 3 goal 3 assists. Who the fossil now biotch.
Thats midwestern smack boys. In case you were wondering! Might I add....damn straight I thought I read that Marshall got called into the Jamaican national team, but LA requested that he stay and play in KC. I forgot where I read that though, I think in an LA Times article this week. Over on the LA board there was a prediction, and I'm going to use the main idea, but take it a bit further. Preki scores on a PK. Meola, in a freakish revenge driven rage, chips Hartman from 95 yards for a goal, rips his jersey off like Donovan and runs up to Albright and gives him the "Jersey finger". KC 2-0
if LA has struggled this season, it's on the offensive end...their D is solid...you guys that are predicting three gols for KC are nuts...look for a low-scoring game, 0-0, 1-0, with Meola much more likely to get beat...having said that, Tyrone being out may cause problems, but the Gals are pretty deep...
On a side note, I always thought California Gals were shallow... As for predicting 3 goals, I think that when KC plays LA, we always elevate our game. I just see a lot more hustle on Saturday night by the Wizards.
Ah, too bad you guys were our bitch in the playoffs last season. But enough about childish trash talk. You have the captain of the short bus, Jimmy Conrad in the back and he doesn't impress. Garcia may rape Fish and get away with it, but I look for our new gun Glinton to destroy Conrad's corner. Klein is a dangerous player and should cause problems for our outside mid, unless he and Cobi are lined up against each other. Then it becomes a chess match as to who has to hold in the mid and D to negate the other's attack. Bong, should he start in the D mid, and Preki will be an interesting battle. Preki goes down a lot and easily and Hong plays a very physical game. Preki will be crying about him all day long.
