Today's game will be a really good test. Uruguay are a good nation and we will need to beat these midtier nations if we want any chance at the World Cup.
Result....... ........ ........ Close if you don't want to know this morning's results...... ........ ........ For real...... I mean it..... Last chance...... ...... Wales beats Ukraine. USA WC schedule: vs. Wales - Monday Nov 21 at 10 a.m. PST vs. England - Black Friday Nov 25 at 11 a.m. PST vs. Iran - Tuesday Nov 29 at 11 a.m. PST That first game will be a big one....
Wales are probably the closest version of the european version of us, but I think nowadays, we have the better players. This is probably the last major tournament Wales will be in for a while with a lot of their better players in the twilight of their careers. Ukraine would have been a much tougher game.
I didn’t see our last match or Uruguay’s shellacking of Mexico but after reading the mlssoccer.com article about today’s match I don’t fancy our chances. That piece makes it sound like URU have the players to slice our D apart. Plus our stats vs little MOR are very concerning: US Xg=2.10 vs MOR Xg=2.07, and we were outshot 22 to 11?! Yes we had a great scoreline and some beautiful goals but the stats suggest the result flatters us and that we couldn’t keep them out of our third. If we allow 24th ranked Morocco to get off 22 shots (including pk) how are we going to slow down 14th ranked Uruguay?
Excited to see us play today! Uruguay has some top talent. Keep an eye on their forward Nunez who will likely go to a big time team this summer and keep an eye on Valverde who was so instrumental in Madrid’s run to the champions league.
Yea I remember that, I thought he was going to be promoted to the 1st team but then I heard about the move. I specifically remember him because you remember the ones called into the youth national team setup.
If anyone was curious as to what there is to complain about today, someone on the USMNT Facebook page is mad that Berhalter is wearing a t shirt. Thinks it isn’t professional.
HT 0-0 Going toe to toe with Uruguay. supposedly this is the reserve squad but any team in the top 15 is going to have a decent reserve squad.
its amusing seeing the Nats thread talking about how crap Scally has been, when I would hazard a bet taht a ton of those were clamoring for Scally to come in.
I’m gonna have an interesting experience during the group stages. I work for a small company based out of London. Oh and my boss is Welsh. Please don’t let me down Gregg.
I posted this under the Galaxy Academy thread, but it also should be mentioned here Neal and Ferkranus called up for the U20s Concacaf Championship Roster (qualifiers for the U20 WC AND the 2024 Olympics). Also Alvarado and Cuevas among players with Galaxy Academy roots. It’s a big deal set of qualifiers, but some of the top players won’t be released until the knockout rounds or at all, so this is a B/B+ roster most likely ʀᴇᴀᴅʏ ᴛᴏ ʀɪsᴇ 💪The #U20MYNT will aim for its third-straight regional title plus berths to the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup & 2024 Olympics at #CU20 this summer » https://t.co/DNMRfFmw2j pic.twitter.com/NjBDingFZ8— U.S. Soccer YNT (@USYNT) June 10, 2022
So, who watched the US-Grenada game on Friday night? Lots of interesting performances, one of which was Luca de la Torre. I finally figured out who he reminds me of on the field - it's Lodeiro from Seattle. His appearance, the way he holds himself, the way he runs. Hopefully he'll have that kind of attacking talent.
His Dutch club was relegated and apparently he had a clause in his contract that allows him to walk. I’d be interested in him if I were Vanney and he was willing to come to MLS at this point.
Kept thinking that as well, but he’s really talented. I can see him signing for a smaller but formidable European side. I was impressed by his skill and his passing. If we replaced Raveloson with De la Torre, we’d be a cup contender.
I don't think he's in our league - unless he really wants to be in California - but he would be a great signing.
I would kind of like to see De la Torre in Germany, there is something about the German style of play that I think fits well with the American style of play and mindset.
