Seb will be the lone MLS representative for the USMNT. https://sports.yahoo.com/galaxy-midfielder-sebastian-lletget-added-231817360.html
Lletget starting at striker for USA. Maybe we have been stupid by playing Lletget out of position this whole time! Also Lletget has now played LW, CAM, RW, Striker, DM, and CM.
Lmao starting XI clubs for the national team: GK - Man City RB - Barcelona CB - Anderlecht CB - Wolfsburg LB - Fulham CM - RB Leipzig CM - Juventus RM - Dortmund AM - Valencia LM - Barcelona ST - LA Galaxy This is even funnier considering our terrible year, and Lletget aint even a striker.
What's with "States" on the back of the players' jackets? Not sure if there's a hidden message here. So we're just "States" now and not United States?
I bought into the hype and watched today. WOW! Where did these kids come from? 0-0 draw but so many moments of hope in this game. If like me you fell out of love with the USMNT, give them a try again. This seems like a group of guys that will win over many people. Lots of skill. Brave play. They just go for it. I like what I saw. My only concern is that Berhalter wont have the experience needed to coach these kids. They’re good but they’re raw. They need a Tata Martino..
Crazy match. Panama started to come alive there in the second. The kids kept at it until Panama broke and then came the rout. Even old man Lletget scored one. Nice. This is Pulisic's generation. Looks very talented in general. More time, more games and who knows. I don't think even a mediocre coach can screw this up. After all they all play in Europe and that alone will help their final development and polish. Hey, maybe Klinsmann was right about that.
Lots of talent and a very fun game against Panama for this viewer - as 8 goal games that are won by your team tend to be. Lletget's goal was very well taken, both strikers acquitted themselves very well, and it's my first time watching Reyna and I am enamored. Lots of good midfielders in this group. The defense was a little porous.
This team has some real talent. Oh boy. The next 8 years might be fun.. Panama went up 1-0 early, and I thought, here we go again. 80+ mins of watching a US team aimlessly pass the ball around. Nope! Kids played confidently and aggressively. The win really never felt in doubt. Even if it’s Panama, it was good to see the boys break through against a future CONCACAF opponent. I like berhalter. I do. I promise! But it’s hard not to feel like the one mistake of this generation of players will be not hiring a coach with more experience. I really hope Berhalter grows into this position, but what would Martino do with these kids? Lopetequi? Seems like the squad likes Berhalter, so I hope it works.
It's a Berhalter hate-fest on the US Men's board, so I feel a bit defensive about him. But it's likely you're correct, @Beirut that he has his limitations. But he does seem to have put together a good group and a good camp, and from the player's comments everyone came out feeling good about it. Dest is a crucial cog and he didn't have to pick US. So far, so good.
Does anyone know how when Berhalter's contract is up? I could see him getting replaced for the 2026 cycle. Having him in place for this transitional period sorta makes sense, I think, but I feel he's really auditioning for the 2026 WC job. These players will be in their prime and it'll probably be a real chance to compete for a WC title. I think he'll probably be assessed based on WQC and the '22 WC and there will be big expectations, but I wouldn't be surprised if they underachieve a bit relative to expectations.
It was a breath of fresh air to watch these two games. I missed the USMNT. And it feels like a page has been turned. Or I've left my baggage at the house. Anyhoo, I didn't care about the draw, and it was fun to watch them pummel Panama. The future looks very very bright. Also - please wrap these players in bubble wrap, and get Musah cap-tied. Thanks!
Not sure why anyone would really be angry at Berhalter from those games. Aside from playing Lletget at striker, I would not have really done much else as a fan. This was also the first time these guys have played with one another for a long time.
Plus these are effing friendlies with quick games and few practice sessions. Berhalter got most of the players on the field and saw them in practice for a week or so. He should have gotten some good looks and info. Like everyone else this was a breath of fresh air in an other wise stale and desultory 2020. Hopefully the December friendly happens and we see who Berhalter wants to look at from MLS and other eligible North American league players.
Hearing Efra Alvarez, the promising #LAGalaxy attacker who has represented Mexican youth national teams since he was 15, will be in December USMNT camp.— scuffed (@scuffedpod) November 26, 2020
Ask and you shall receive. He will also be there. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020...rain-alvarez-julian-araujo-receive-usmnt-call
Darn it. If I knew i actually had a wish, I would have hoped for something of more significance! Great for Julian. Also, didn't realize Efrain would need to file the one-time switch form to play in a game for the US.
Wish for something else and see if it works!! As for Efrain - my understanding is that friendlies don't cap-tie you, but official tournament games do. And if you are under 21, you are allowed a one-time switch. So I could be wrong on this but since Efrain played in an official tourney for Mexico, he would have to file the paperwork to switch and then couldn't switch back to Mexico after that. At least that is my understanding.
