As some of you may know, the KC Wizards almost beat the LA Galaxy in LA, but Ruiz's late game heroics pulled out a victory for Sigi Schmid's team.

In KC, the Wizards dismantled the Galaxy 4 - 1. When it was 3 - 0, the most unlikely thing happened. Chris Albright scored. As if that wasn't enough ... Carlos Ruiz had the assist.

    Here's the box score:
    KC - Simutenkov (Garcia) 18
    KC - Quill (Vermes) 37
    KC - Preki (Unassisted) 70
    LA - Albright (Ruiz) 71
    KC - Fabbro (Quill) 72

The series is now tied one win apiece, or 3 points to 3 points in the first to 5 point series. The final game will be played back at LA.

    Will the miracles never cease?

I'm quite happy to see Albright scored. I have been hoping that he'd blossom under Sigi, but it hasn't happened to date. Maybe this will help his confidence.

I missed seeing Chris Albright score against a non A-League team? Crap. I hope I live long enough to see it happen again.

Yeah, apparently Albright chipped Meola right off the kickoff (well not right off, I assume it was touched).

Freakin' nuts. Of all the ways for that guy to score. Can't bury 'em from the 6, but scores from midfield???

Oh well, Galaxitives lost, and with any luck will be out of the playoffs soon. As long as they don't win it, I'll be happy.

Albright must have learned that chip from Etch. Glad to see that he put it to good use against Meola and the Galaxy still managed to lose. Truly a win-win situation from my standpoint.

i watched the game on tv. it was fun to see him chip it. meola wasn't even facing the ball. he was walking back to the goal line and then the ball was in the net. he turned around with the best look on his face. classic!

The Albright goal was fun indeed. Apart from that, the Galaxy looked horrible. Should be an interesting game on Wednesday.

Re: Re: LA Galaxy at KC Wizards [R]

The only reason he scored was because he didn't have enough leg to clear the crossbar! :D

Gravity was half the reason for the hit, but at least his aiming line was accurate for once.

It was fun to see Meola surprised by the thwack of the ball against twine as he mosied into the box!

KC came right back to tally the fourth however! Had Heron not gifted Ruiz a PK in game 1 (see latest Insider if you don't believe me http://www.mlsnet.com/content/02/spot0927bradley.html ) lalagals would be on that long plane ride home having blown another playoff opportunity.

Watching the lalagals lose is almost as fun as watching the mutts die.

It really was a funny goal. They didn't show it live though. They were too busy showing a replay of the KC goal that gave the Galaxatives the kickoff in the first place. Like so many other excellent MLS productions, they missed another kickoff.

Crappy attendance, horrible field conditions (did anyone watch the Crew game?), terrible announcers, marketing that absolutely sucks. How many more years will this league survive? It almost seems as if the MLS is going out of its way to go out of business.

C'mon Mike, when was the last time ANYONE scored a goal directly off a kickoff. You're being a bit harsh on that one. As for the attendence, it's the same old song and dance. Attendence always sucks during the playoffs. That system has to change.

But hey, in spite of everything, MLS still is growing in a marketplace where our other major competitiors are stagnant or shrinking.

Why does attendance stink during the playoffs I've noticed that too? I would think the fans would be excited to see their team having a shot at the MLS cup.

There is ZERO excuse to miss a kickoff. Period. Why is it so difficult for the idiots who do broadcasting for the MLS to figure out how to show replays without missing live action? It's pretty simple. They should do what other soccer broadcasters do and save the replays for half time, after the game or during a stoppage in play that'll take more than a few seconds (injuries, prior to PKs, etc).

And where is the MLS growing? It's amazing to me that stadiums are not packed with fans hoping to see their home team make it to the MLS Cup.

Are playoff goals eligable for MLS Goal of the Year??

If so, wouldn't it be the biggest irony if Albright had goal of the year??
