An Open Letter To All Barra Members:

First of all we would like to thank everybody that has helped support our team, be it from 1996 or as recent as last year. We are only as strong as our membership, and we grew by leaps and bounds over the last few years. The fans that I and the rest of the Barra leadership have met over the last season or two have brought La Barra back to life in the face of some hard times on the field. But in that span we've also found out alot about ourselves. We all have one common goal, and that's to support our team, win or lose regardless...

The people that have come into the fold are too numerous to mention, but we appreciate each and everyone of you. Funkfoot, Bison, Victory,Entropy et all, (forgive me if I don't mention every new member) have made significant contributions to our cause. So with that in mind I would like to inform all our members of the minutes of our meeting today.

1 The Barra website will be new and improved shortly. We will move to a new server that will be more user friendly and GREATLY enhanced, It's our goal to have the best supporter website in MLS, and with the people in charge of running it, I have no doubt that this will happen.

2 Giving back to our members. As the season rolls on, we want to have our members more involved with the say in how La Barra operates. We want members to contribute to our site with articles in english and spanish, via articles, pics, ideas, etc. Game tickets and prizes and other perks are in store. We have so many talented people out there, we want to get you involved.

3 Last and certainly not least, we would like to invite all our members to a Preseason Party on February 28th at the home of Robert Gillespie aka Red&Black. Rob has graciously offered to host this bash because he is truly Barra Brava and believes that we all need to get together.

As most of you know, we consider ourselves family, so we would also like to take this opportunity to invite all member of The Eagles and La Norte to join us. Rob will follow this post with directions and particulars.

4 Four? There is no four. I spent the afternoon with the Grillmaster, McOwen, Begbie,Oscar and Red&Black and drank way too much.

Hope to see everyone at the Happy Hour on the
    20Th.

    Chico

Yup, and we'll take care of that Todd. Which reminds me, the party at R&B's is a great opportunity to re-up. We want to get everyones email and dues so we can continue to host our great tailgates thru out 2004.

As someone who hung out with you guys at a couple games last year but never actually joined, whats the simplest way to join/pay before this season starts?

Once the new website is up and running we will be able to streamline online ticket purchasing. But if you don't feel like waiting drop me a PM and I'll hook it up for you.

probably to show up to the party or the tailgate before the first game. if those don't work, give me a PM (or chico13 or begbie) and i'll work out how to get you signed up.

i'll post a page with directions to the party and a map sometime when i am not quite as "Barrified".

given the happy hour on the 20th and the party on the 28th, that ought be enough preseason and get everyone fired up for a mass carpool (or 2) to charleston.

the party will be a great opportunity to bring prospective members--my guess is we can swing into midseason tailgating form within an hour...

A lingering punishment from the colossal open-goal miss no doubt.

    I want a flag.

Party sounds like a good idea. It's a week before our vacation to Italy.

If you think you can make the party please post here so we can get an approximate head count. We're supplying the beer and food, but if you want to help out with a sidedish or whatever send Red&Black or myself a PM.

    Dues?

Are dues still $20, or has the weakend US dollar driven up the price of Fosters to the point where we've gotta kick in a few more bucks? ;) Let me know, so I can make sure to have enough cash on hand at the happy hour.

    Re: Dues?

For new members the dues are $20 if you're re-upping it's $15. Look forward to seeing you at the HH. Hope you can make the party too.

For what it's worth, the inside poop is that the team will not be holding an open practice this year or a meet the coach night so the party is a great way for all of us to catch up and get together in a non-happy hour environment.

Well, since la mujer will be in the Bahamas, and I'll be stuck in frosty DC, chained to my desk, I'm there, dude - and the cost of a cab be damned, I ain't driving!

Branch Avenue metro is the closest subway station. It shouldn't be that bad of a cab ride. I know that most of the Virginia stations have cabs waiting around all the time, not sure about Branch Ave.
