OOPS, realized we didn't have a thread for this. Anyways, its the first half right now, in the 25th minute and Wiltord just lobbed Landreau and it smacked against the bar!! Our supporters are barely there, maybe 30 total
Lyon starting to control the match.... Some sketchy calls though, PSG are forced to make a lot of tackles - good tackles- but the ref is giving lyon the calls 33' Juninho takes a freekick, off the wall, give the ball to Govou who's shot takes a deflection off mendy and heads in a looping manner straight towards the goal! Landreau tracks back and makes a fantastic save to keep the ball out
38' Oh c'mon ref, Kalou wins the ball after being hassled and loses control, Juninho runs onto it and Kalou goes in for the tackle. A little late, nothing really, and still gets the ball, but Juninho goes down screaming like a ***** and the ref immediately brandishes a yellow
41' great buildup play between Diane, Kalou and Pauleta. Diane plays it off to Kalou who controls the ball, holds onto it, then gives it to Pedro. Pauleta moves around looking for an opening and releases a shot from an angle aimed at the lower right corner - just wide.
43' Yellow to Cris, absolutely correct, Reveilliere hassling Kalou and the latter starts the former. Cris charges in like a teenager with too much testosterone and shoves Kalou. The players all charge in and the referee finally restores calm and gives the yellow to Cris. 45' The referee under scrutiny once again! A ball contested by Armand and Wiltord ends up with Armand sliding in, and getting the ball. The Gerland erupts and the Lyon players are screaming for a red. The referee consults the AR and brandishes a yellow for Armand. Absolutely ridiculous as Armand got the ball, and it was clean challenge with Wiltord going down after that. But given the atmosphere at the Gerland, some PSG fans might consider it lucky that the referee didn't succumb fully to the pressure (of cash ) 46' Lyon 1-0 PSG, Wiltord scores after a Juninho freekick, the ball is headed onto him and he puts in a good header in the back off the net. However, there is a great chance that he was actually offside, and the PSG players are protesting furiously. No replays are being shown of the freekick from a decent angle, so we'll never know, as always. But Lyon are glad to be up 1-0 before the break. As the players head for the vestiaires, the PSG players are yelling at the AR for multiple reasons I assume. One, the injustified yellow on Armand, and two, perhaps an offsides on the goal?
53' An excellent ball from Armand to release Pauleta from a barely onside position, but Coupet just beats the Portugese striker to the ball and the latter has to jump over
56' A series of chances for Lyon , Landreau does well to punch away a Wiltord effort and the PSG defenders are not clearing well
60' BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PAULETA PAULETA PAULETA PAULETA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!ERORME !!!!!!!!!! l'AIGLE DES ACORES!!!!!!!!! FREEKICK RIGHT INTO THE SIDE OF THE NET!!! BEAUTY! LYON 1-1 PSG
63' Lyon are pressing hard now, and look dangerous after getting the ball, PSG need to shore up the defense in order to prevent going down once more Revelliere with a shot that would've been on target if not for a deflection
68' Yellow for Tiago for a late challenge on Hellebuyck Wiltord off after looking a little worried about his hamstring. Ben Arfa replaces.
71' PSG with a ridiculous spell. Landreau plays a dangerous and stupid game and wastes a ludicrous amount of time before hitting the goalkick, the ball passed back to him and he almost gets stuffed by Malouda who rushes him. This is followed by a period where PSG can't clear and lyon gets some good looks in.
Substitution: Diane off for Pancrate. Give it five minutes and another substitution might be made intended to play for the draw.
PSG need to make sure to keep steady and use as much time as possible in order to get the point. 84' PC off for Kalou.
86' Ben Arfa almost unravels the entire defense by himself, corner 88' Juninho delivers into the box, Cris hits it under the body of Landreau after being left free by the PSG defenders Lyon 2-1 PSG 89' Malouda easily shakes off his markers and delivers the finishing blow from a tight angle. A great shot, Landreau can't be blamed. But the defenders.... yes. Lyon 3-1 PSG
FT Lyon 3-1 PSG This brings up memories of the HTA, unbelievable defense, absolute shambles towards the end. Their concentration and themselves really seem to dissappear once they get the slightest hint that they might be in trouble. Up until the 85th minute, PSG and Lyon looked equals on the field, with the latter playing quite poorly. Then the Ben Arfa run, followed by the Juninho goal, then the KO punch by Malouda. 2 goals conceded on set pieces. Honestly, what do they do during training?
Ho Hum! Ho Hum! Another loss with bad defending off set pieces. Unfortunately, Cayzac cannot fire Lacombe because of the UEFA Cup match against Panathinaikos. When PSG loses to Panathinaikos, which it is most likely to happen, Lacombe will get the boot.
I think the issue of set pieces came up earlier, and I believe both Pauleta and Guy Lacombe came out stating that some players pretend to go through the motions in training even despite the state the team is in. Is it Guy's fault that the players don't mark? Absolutely not. In fact, the team was quite good and would've got away with a point except for those ********ing lapses of concentration.
For those PSG fans who are sick and tired of typing about their thoughts about the squad, just read the article in soccernet.com by a Paul Marshall in the "Spotlight -> Europe" section. The article just reaffirms what we PSG fans have been typing in here for so long. The way this season has going for PSG, there is no need for some of us to keep commenting about PSG. Just read the article and the answers to any questions about the performances by PSG will be there. UNLESS THERE IS A MIRACLE!? NAH! I don't think so.
This surely can't get worser , could it ? Le capitaine Pauleta , I wonder what he's really thinking because in our next 3 games a loss against Nice and Troyes and Valenciennes (lets face it , it wouldn't be a huge suprised if he lose them games) we'll be right in the relegation places , and we all know what happens when we're under pressure . This totally sucks , and it's very depressing .
c'mon. Pauleta's a man with extraordinary self-discipline.He's not criticizing his teammates, he's criticizing his own disability as captain to bring up the performance the way a capital team should be performing. He's not pointing fingers, man. And pressure doesn't really matter btw: they (IMO, everyone except Pedro) play like s*** under all circumstances. period.
