Don't see another incoming midfielder. I assume Partey is still first choice as he was for the run-in. Until he gets hurt, then it's Jorginho when Arteta wants to sit deeper and Merino against deeper blocks, as @footykid suggested. And as seen in the friendly tonight, Arteta is not going to abandon his Havertz at 8 vision. Really starting to feel like the next outfield target is a 9 if that is the case.

Gonna need another midfielder or two next season when Partey and Jorginho leave. My expectation is no more than 2 good years from Merino and he leaves for free when his 4-yr contract expires. I fear his injury rate will go up as an older player moving to a pacier league. My expectations are low, so should be easy for him to exceed them

Not sure we are gonna find a better option than Partey/Jorge at 6 this window. Wish we had or could find a reasonably priced young player that we could groom to atleast be the backup next season so we dont have to add 2 new players next summer.

To echo sentiments in the "Coming to America" thread, Partey is done.

Tend to agree but who can we legit add right now that would be better? Unless Zubi decides that he wants to follow Merino, I dont see anyone that's a guaranteed starter.

I'd start Jorginho as much as possible and try a double pivot of Merino and Rice in other matches. Partey messes up the spacing for everyone else.

Don't think they sell Wharton this year, but knowing there will be a need next summer, Arteta/Edu should start working his agent now, lay the groundwork, let Palace plan for his replacement, convince him Arsenal is the club where he wants to be.

If true, I hope we take it. We're not getting more than this for him. It'll also help getting our new striker across the line.

This makes a lot of sense. Use Merino as the stop gap, bring in Wharton and give him time to settle in. Though, given how MLS has been looking in pre-season, he could be the one to take over from Merino.

    Partey is truely washed

a fit younger version of him would be perfect

merino can do a bit of that I think and offers defensive stability

he showed some nice play in the euros and sociadad fans like him

I’m trying to be positive as he’s not my ideal player but edu and arteta don’t miss much

Its amazing how many people are saying we need to hold out for more considering Eddies match time and numbers over the years.
Its good we didn't just roll over with the first bid, but people are acting like we should be getting 40-50mil for him.

Yes we need to improve how we sell players, but we have come a long way from buying out contracts and letting guys go on a free.

Newcastle working on a deal for Marc Guehi, annoyingly that's a good deal for them. He's been rumored as someone Arsenal like but the need isn't really there.

ESR is now officially a Fulham player, so long sweet prince. We will always remember you and Saka saving Artetas job in 2020.

Both club and player are handling this with class. Hard to not get sentimental seeing all the posts on social media.

For some reason, Ramsdale is trending in my Twitter feed. Seems it's all related to Raya already back with the team and Ramsdale still on vacation. It does make me wonder if something is brewing, but then again, it could all be no big deal.

Apparently TNAT mentioned a Bruno-Ramsdale swap deal if Newcastle have to sell.

Merino and Bruno seem pretty similar to me, I don't think Bruno prefers Arsenal. Rather take a run at Isak.

Feel like Ramsdale could go down to deadline day for someone to need a keeper, and I wouldn't rule out him staying at least until January and remaining the #2.

I think Bruno G has a better skillset to be an "Arteta 6". He, Rice & MO could be a VERY formidable MF. If you land Bruno, I think you really need to offload Partey. Merino may be capable of playing 6 but I see him as more of a rotational piece for Rice & MO. If you offload (or otherwise write off) Partey, I 100% think there is a world where you can add both Bruno & Merino and find enough min for everyone.

Supposedly Southampton & Nottingham want him but can't afford our asking so they are holding out till the end of the window to try and get him on loan.

Supposedly we are after 1 MF & 1 FW (presume that the MF is Merino). If we can find any way to offload Partey, I still really think we need a 6 as well. If you add a 6 + Merino, I would be making a push for a W because (a) Havertz would have a harder time finding MF minutes and (b) I'm not sure Jesus has the straight-line speed to be true W.

They are paying 30m for Merino. Elneny has made one start in 2 seasons, he doesn't need replacing.

Supposedly OM has been trying to rush this deal. They are concerned that the longer it drags the more likely an EPL club offers more than they can afford. Think Edu is using that to his advantage to squeeze as much as possible out of them.
