Pass on Sane. High wages I think it's upwards of £285k, injury prone, falls out with people, turns 29 in Jan and is heavily reliant on pace.

There are so many promising players coming out every year in his position. Heck, I'd take Anthony Gordon over him.

I’m certain Arteta could turn Gordon into a great player

for the prices being quoted for all linked wide players, I'd rather try our Salah and spend the money on a midfielder

"our Salah" is an AM. doesn't have the speed to be a wide player

How certain of that are you? How much have you watched or studied Salah?

p.s. It'd be nice if we came up with a nice shorthand way of labeling this guy. To call him just Salah causes some obvious confusion with a certain Egyptian. His full name is Salah-Eddine Oulad M'Hand. Could we just call him Oulad? Or SEOM? ;)

The club listed him as Salah when they released the team sheet so that's what I've gone with. He also has a younger brother in the academy named Ismail Oulad M'Hand.

To paraphrase Office Space, why should he change his name when the no-talent ass clown that plays for Liverpool is the one who sucks.

(it's a joke, Mohamed Salah does not suck)

Not much but I've seen him in Arsenal preseason 3x and each time he played at AM and didnt look particularly fast to me. Also saw him listed as AM when we signed him and when he was on loan.

Leicester source (Jordan Blackwell) saying Nelson not looking likely. Claims that he is out of their price bracket but not sure if that is fee or wage issue.

Sign a 9 to replace Eddie, use Jesus out wide and keep Nelson. Find another wing next season.

The Athletic is also reporting that Nico Williams will stay at Athletic this season.

    Potential Spanish incomings:

Nico? FWIW, I've never thought that was likely. Would be very happy to be proven wrong by Eduteta.

Merino? His value is less clear to me. And if we sign him, he seems a much less a likely starter than say Calafiori. Is that the general consensus?

As far as I can tell from Arteta's interviews it's not about starters or depth in a traditional sense of this is our best 11 any more. Its about having a squad he can make game plans with. The players who play more games are the ones who can tactically do the most things generally. But, I think it's also about getting players with x-factor which is players who do certain things so well it's like a cheat code.

Jesus is probably the archetypal player is this regard. If we can get settled possession in the final third Jesus can get himself facing the goal with the ball disproportionately compared to the average striker/winger.

Imo Merino is about combating the mid block and counter attacks in a way that frees up the MO8.

So are you saying you think Merino would have a more limited/utility role rather than starter? If so, does that run slightly counter to Mikel's apparent valuation of players who can fit into several/many different roles? I.e. the defenders he's bought lately

Depends on how often we expect to see the midblock. I think I saw somewhere the expectation that it would become the go to set up given the number of positional play disciples in the game right now.

I feel like there many matches last season where we weren't doing anything, everyone in the matchday thread was calling for subs to spark things up, and when they did come on they usually did more of the same. Merino could come on and unlock things. Especially in a way that doesn't require MO8 to drop so low or have Partey exposed.

according to Gegenpressing pod (high quality) they think Sane might move back to the EPL

i don’t watch Bayern but apparently he is more an inside forward now than a winger and Bayern are trying. to change the structure of their squad. basically they have Musiala at 10 and are trying to get younger.

Sane is still a very good player at club level when fit.

he’s on huge wages and might be looking for a peak contract. bayern need to move an attacker and he is the one that will fetch big money.

so maybe this is a real interest?

I think the interest was real.

I don’t know if we pay the wages he wants.

Sane is a weirdo as well.

Maybe why we are sending scouts to see Gyokeres..... Leicester says he is too much. West Ham just signed the Summerville from Leeds. Don't recall any other legit links for Nelson. All the other Ws that we "like" are either unavailable, uninterested or very expensive.
