I have a question for you crew supporters. After watching MLS Wrap and seeing the New Soccer Nation Commercial a ton of times, which still gets me fired up btw, I swore that Kyle Martino looked really familiar to me. Does anyone know anything about his prep career? I went to high school in Connecticut that would play the school in Wesport where he went. I think there's a good chance that I may have attended a soccer camp in Connecticut with him in the 10th grade. He might have even been on my 'team' at the camp. It was a camp at Suffeild Academy in Suffeild CT. Ironically I do remember that our 'coach' was the National Team Coach of the Faroe Islands, hah. Does anyone know if he played any other sports in high school too? Because I played soccer on the JV level and volleyball on the varsity level. I know I played against his high school in vollebally. Can't remember if my school matched up against his at the JV level. Just after seeing him in that commercial so many times I keep thinking that I might have met him before.
alright. after an exhaustive search i've determined that while i played in high school our two teams never played. we could've met in the state tournament, and would've but my team got knocked out in the first round. i swear i might have gone to a soccer camp with this kid though.
yeah it was just some weird thing i was thinking of. i didn't know if anyone on here was also from the area, or happend to know him personally.
Just to add my two cents: As the current (and departing) Suffield Academy JV coach - which puts me on par with say...Ray Hudson - I would just like to totally confuse the issue and say that just the prospect of Kyle gracing our summer camp at the Academy is enough for me motivate my motley bunch of footballing miscreants. Small world, indeed.
I am reasonably certain that Kyle played his senior year of high school at Staples in Westport, CT. Prior to that he was at the Bollitieri Academy in Bradenton, FL. Not sure what his camp affiliations were back then.
