http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tm...&u=/nm/20030303/ts_nm/iraq_kuwait_troops_dc_7 well i can't think of a better friend than the brits and the kuwaitis.
Until they spitcan Blair, put in an anti-war PM, and you have to start calling them "liberty muffins."
Re: Re: Kuwait: We'll take troops They wouldn't dare dump a PM during a war, no way. When this war starts March 13 or 14, we will have full support from the Brits. Weather you agree or disagree with the war, once it starts, they will all want to be on the same page. And that page has to do with supporting the troops.
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tm...ait_troops_dc_7 isn't it nice when you don't have to worry about pesky democratic institutions like parliament. maybe we should keep that in mind afterwards in iraq. ps, kuwaitis as friends? you've seem to miss all the right wing chatter about how ungrateful the kuwaiti people are because they don't like the US even though we freed them from Saddam
I don't know how much it will help. There are limits to how many troops you can put in one place, supply at one time or move on the same road. If the 4th division can't go into Turkey, they probably won't be part of the initial invasion. It'll take them a few days to ship down around to Kuwait and a couple weeks to offload the ships (given enough port facilities, which is questionable as we are already shipping so many supplies to that nation).
Re: Re: Re: Kuwait: We'll take troops I'm fine with supporting the troops. It's their COMINCH that's the trouble. Anyway, I can't get to where the UK under any circumstances comes along without the UN. If Bush invades before the Security Council votes, then Parliament's anger will probably be greater, not less. (As well as domestic political support, but as I've said elsewhere, they punted their input way back in October.) Not to mention the Security Council, who will definitely not react favorably to a fait accompli. The Security Council's OK is required at this point, otherwise the US goes in alone. Which I doubt will happen, actually. The "support the troops" factor won't balance out how people feel about the pre-emptive invasion, and I doubt the administration will take the risk unless they are absolutely 100% sure they can win within a week. Which they might, but I wouldn't bet the presidency on it. Best to wait until after summer, if the UN gives us the finger.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Kuwait: We'll take troops The UN meets on Wednesday, March 12 to vote on resolution number 2. Russia and perhaps China will veto. On March 13 Bush issues an ultimatum that Saddam must come forward with the WMD's within 24 hours. Thus, the first bombs hit their targets around noon EST on march 14. The Brits will be there, and will see heavy action.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Kuwait: We'll take troops No, no, no, this can't happen. I have March 31st in the pool.
