We all know the history of the Kurds in Iraq and their hatred of Saddam Hussein's regime. We also know that they seem more than willing to take up arms against his forces in this war.

Given that, has anyone heard whether their assitance would be of major help to the coalition military activities in the north? From what I've heard, they are mostly lightly-armed and not "regular" fighting forces. Do they have any heavy forces? If so, would we be able to work in conjunction with them to open up a northern front in the push towards Baghdad? Would the Arabs in the north be more or less willing to accept their presence than allied forces?

I'd like to see them give us any possible assistance, but would this be feasible, both militarily and politically?

They arent going to make the trip to Baghdad with us. They are merly helping us secure the Northern area of Iraq. They are lightly armored but are large in numbers(20,000-30,000). It is much easier to control an area with locals helping you fight the battle, just look at how hard the battle is in Basra and An Nasariya.
