    dpa news from today:

Sammy Kuffour of German record champion Bayern Munich is mourning about his daughter Godiva. The 15 months old girl died in a bathing accident in Kuffour's home country Ghana. "This are very sad news. This is bad start into 2003 for us", said Bayern GM Uli Hoeneß on Saturday at the start of the training after the winter break.

"The team is shocked", reported Ottmar Hitzfeld. The Coach spoke about a "heavy fate for Sammy Kuffour". The 26 old defender already was back from his vacation. Hoeneß immediately chartered a private plane that flew Kuffour back to his family in Accra. His return to Munich is still open. Hoeneß explained that the national player from Ghana can stay until he feels able to return to the training.

Being the father of a 7 month old girl myself, I can only imagine what Sammy is going through. It was a class act on the part of Hoeness to charter a private plane and allowing Sammy to stay as long as he needs.

Bad, bad news. Kuffour is a class player and, from what I've heard, a very good human being. It's very sad.
