"The school will lose $35,000 for the seven games not played at the school.

Cooper said the team moved after he began talks to buy the Busch site. The deal is still being finalized, Cooper said, but the stadium is already under his control.

"When we came to the agreement with Anheuser-Busch on taking over the soccer park, it just makes more sense to play for your home stadium than one that you rent," Cooper said.

Cooper declined to disclose how much the purchase was worth.

SIUE last year installed $1.1 million in artificial turf at the stadium. Conroy said those plans were in place before the Athletica came to SIUE.

Cooper said the team will continue to use the soccer park for practices."
