Messi had similar problem where he couldn't play for months. When player turns 16, they can be offered a pro contract and they can start playing again. Another player currently at la masia(17) also had same problem but started playing again after one year of not playing.

It's actually one of the few rules that FIFA has got it right. There is no guarantee that any of these will ever be a success and blindly allowing clubs to sign youths from all around the world with complete disregard for their future is even more ridiculous. LSW and other KPA youths are one of very few exceptions. They probably have something to fall back on if everything fails. No reason to repeal the rule to make it convenient for a very small minority.

Fifa should act reasonably and consider barca's appeal. These kids are obviously not being taken advantage of (false promises) to make a quick profit. The ban accomplishes nothing except hindering the careers of promising young players.

Right. So they should make Barcelona the only exception? Like I said, the rule should not be changed just for a very little minority.

I don't know the full history of these rules but given the fact that these players were already in violation despite all the limelight, it doesn't seem to be doing much protecting at all.

They can make an exception for three individuals because they are clearly an exception as you said yourself...

Appeal for what? It's a black and white case. And LOL, if only the law works like that.... I wouldn't get too hung up on these kids anyway. Barcelona youth doesn't automatically mean a future star.

it is a good & ideal law. too bad FIFA didn't bother to enforce it & sporadically decided to enforce the rule NOW all of a sudden...

the problem isnt so much about the law its the enforcement of the law. FIFA turned a blind eye to this law until a competing team brought up this technicality. if you have laws that you enforce when you please then they arent laws worth having. the case is not black and white in the slightest.

@zdrstvte I really don't understand how you don't get why people are upset about the implementation of the law. NO ONE is criticizing the moral basis of the law - people on this forum on criticizing the IMPLEMENTATION and APPLICATION of the law, which has not been fair and sporadic at best.

The fact that Barcelona has been one of the few teams (if not the only) team to deal with this speaks volumes about the unfair application of the law. Barcelona is world renowned for providing great facilities, an actual education, amongst other things while children are developing at the academy.
