I was reading an article on KBS Sports and it cited that for the upcoming Korea Japan friendly, both nations were to be fully equipped with all of their star players from the WC.

Now, correct me if I;m wrong but aren't friendlies suppose to be matches where you deviate form using the status-quo of players that formed a successful squad so that nation's team can be on the look out for new blood?

Why not take friendlies as opportunities to seek out new talent rather than both nations trying to play tug of war like two littel bltch nances. I think both Korea and Japan should do what every other country does for their friendlies. Which is using domestic players who might get a chance to shine and become a regular fixture on their national teams. Besides, wouldn't it be all the more gratifying if a South Korean side full of domestic players beat a full strength Japanese side? It would also be a chance to discover up and coming players. Our domestic players are more than enough to handle them I think as the K-league doesnt have as much star foreign players as the J-league but are still able to be the dominant league in Asia.

things that make you go hum...

This is one of those times where pride gets in the way of common sense...i have heard from a japanese friend that koreans and japanese dont get along very well because of past history..

you are right, they should bring in new faces and try them out. just like Bruce arena did for the USMNT against Argentina, USA lost 1-0 but they got to see some new faces....

we will see what happens in the Korea - Japan game...

    that is all from me,

heck no. bring the best player we've got. i love that atmosphere when korea must win or i will face another heavily humiliating trolling by hamatachi. and i wont be able to talk back much. watching a test out soccer games arent very fun. i hope both sides bring the best and compete for the best. and of course, i hope korea will score more goals than japan does.

and i dont like the attitude of the second phrase. so if we have nothing to lose and much to gain? nah~~ thats being a bit cheap. bring the best and if we lose, we realize we arent very good. i kinda sound like i'm being mean to you but i dont mean anything personal.

We love Hamatachi though. At least I do.

As for the friendly, like Iowa said, I think it's all about pride when it comes down to this one. If it were up to me, then yeah, it'd be all about figuring out who could have a chance at a future spot on the team. At the same time, it's all about playing to the crowd as well. I'm sure the fans would want both sides at full strength and that's where the money is.

Im not sure if I understand what this thread is trying to say, but if the argument is that you shouldnt bring your "best players" when playing a friendly, that means Japan wouldnt have any competitive matches until the first round of the Confederations Cup. Zico has just started building a new team and it wont look anything like the one that was at WC2002. So are you arguing that the team should just go into the Confeds Cup without EVER having a chance to play together in competitive conditions before?? What kind of nut case are you???

Well, I dont need an answer to that question. Ill just take it for granted that you havent had a great deal of experience as coach of any national teams. I think its great that Korea will bring their best team. Japan needs all the practice they can get, and against the strongest opponents possible, if they want to make a good showing in the Confeds Cup. Considering the fact that the matches against the US and Uruguay may be cancelled, this could be Zico's only chance to build his team.

Im not sure why you dont want Korea to bring their best players. In the case of Japan, friendly matches are about the only things we ever play. In Japan's case, we have a bye all the way to the final round of Asian Cup competition, and a bye through the first round of WC2006 competition. Thererfore, if you exclude the Confeds Cup (which most other countries dont take seriously), Japan will play a MAXIMUM of 10 competitive matches between now and WC2006 (that assumes that we reach the final of the Asian Cup as well as proceeding to the WC). If you dont bring your best players to play in friendly matches, then when will you ever get a chance to build your national team??

OK, I realise the original post was simply intended as an exercise in trolling. I just didnt want you to go away disappointed because nobody responded.

he's missing me so much since i don't talk to him much lately. well, you don't need to bring up my name every once in a month. just tell me you love me.

of course you won't be able to talk back much coz you seem to be busy at some other places. we will chat when you have time. don't worry as far as i've seen, you're doing superb over there.

i love you too. hopefully, mets can win the division this year.

There is one reason why national coaches don't bring their best team to a friendly, and that is because they can't.
If Korea doesn't value their friendlies matches as much as their opponent, then I guess they could bring whichever team they choose.
I am moving this thread to the Korea forum.

Errrr... Korea does have the potential(?) to score goals. But I highly doubt we will get that many past Japan's defence & goalkeeper.

I'll be more than glad with a one goal lead.

I was curious. The fans may be hyped for the Korea-Japan matches, for obvious reasons, but what do the players feel about it? Do they treat it with a big game mentality as let's say the Brazilians do when they play Arg., or is it just another game?

super big game mentality. coaches will have their heads chopped off, and players will have to go through mass swearing of the media and the fans if they lose by more than two goals.

Yes. On the 16th of April. I heard there will be a lot Japanese fans, and the Ultras (i'm not sure if the "group" Ultra Nippon exists anymore) were invited by Seoul to participate in a Korea-Japan joint World Cup memorial blahblah concert which will be held at Gwanghwamoon or City Hall at kick-off.

I'm already excited by this. I cant sleep. I still remember the 0-2 defeat @ Jamsil in 1998. There were about 5000 Japanese there..all in blue..[edited-KF] had blue trash bags and tried to throw it on the field but obviously it failed cuz...i mean..u CANT THROW A [edited-KF] PIECE OF VINYL ..ITS IMPOSSIBLE. After the game they started jumpin around banging there little drums singing vamos nippon blahblha and it kinda pissed me off. But what pissed me off even more was our little banner that said "Lets go to France together" sh!t...i mean..the Japanese should thank us..if we would have beaten them that day..2002 was probably to first World Cup the Japanese would have attended. So be THANKFUL (im just playing...u guys are so sensitive.)

Yeah, but the 2-1 victory in Japan was suhweet! I was living in Japan at the time. I had my mother-in-law-to-be record it while I was out that day. It is especially sweet listening to the disappointed Japanese announcers after Lee Minsung scored the winner. The equalizer was shocking enough, but they thought they'd get a draw out of it.

reminds me of the video i saw of koreans celebrating in the streets when japan lost to turkey. They were watching the match in the street, clapping hands for turkey.

ok i like both korea and japan, and im having a tough time giving my prediction but here it goes

    0-0

you know why? THIS GAME IS GOING TO BE FIXED JUST LIKE THE KOREA/NORTH KOREA GAME TO IMPROVE POLITICAL RELATIONS!

if they tie the game ist means it was fixed, if the game is not rigged before it even begins i would say korea has the advantage. They have a proven scorer in seol.

Personally, i was rooting for Japan, and at the stadium (5 hours before the Kor-Ita match) there were hundreds of people wearing red, clapping and chanting "nippon". But then there were the Japanese at the stadium who at first jumped up and down when Vieri scored but after the game they started to chant "Dae Han Min Guk".
