2-0. So if we beat Portugal 1-0, URU needs to win by 3 goal diff or we advance... Let's hope URU will beat Ghana. URU: - GF 0 - GD -2 KOR: - GF 2 - GD -1
In this scenario, Uruguay will advance with a two-goal victory if they score at least 3 goals. (e.g., 3-1)
Bento should never have gotten that straight red. I hope to god things don't come down to Fair Play tie-breaker.
Why is that? Both KOR And URU will have 0 GD and 3 GF in that case. What's the tie breaker here? Fair play? Wondering if POR will do rotation or still start their best 11 for the 1st place to avoid Brazil.
Portugal are not assured of the 1st place and they want to avoid Brazil so they won't go easy on Korea. Korea will face their 1st team.
To be clear, we currently have 4 yellows (minus 4 points) and 1 direct red (minus 4 points), which equals - 8 points. Uruguay has just 3 yellows, - 3 points.
Korea need to beat Portugal by 2 goals or 1 goal with lots of goals scored like 4-3. Example Korea 4 - 3 Portugal Ghana 0 - 0 Uruguay or K 2-0 P G and U any kind of tie
So its fair play. smh. I doubt they will score 3+ goals against Ghana anyway or we win against POR lol.
I know...can you just imagine? We miss out on R16 not due to Bento's mismanagement of the team but mismanagement of his anger?
Man, this is going to be like 4 years ago, isn't it? We do our part, but the other game doesn't go our way...
To qualify, we need to first beat Portugal. After that: if Ghana wins, we're still out if Ghana/Uruguay draws, we need to beat Portugal by at least two goals if Uruguay wins, Uruguay needs to make up the GD by scoring +3 more than us in their win. So the most hopeful scenario is for us and Uruguay to win on Friday by just one goal.
Btw, supporting and following the KNT must have taken years off my life at this point. I have always been enthusiastically hopeful, particularly during the WC, but for my own sanity I am going to accept that we are done. I just hope that we go out guns blazing like we did in 2018.
I'm not super impressed by this Portugal team. It's reasonable to think that we could beat them...by a goal. By two goals? Not so much. So this is what I'm praying for.
A simple way to look at this is that Korea and Uruguay need to win and the margin has to be greater or equal for Korea. Otherwise the total number of goals is counted. Or Uruguay and Ghana tie and Korea need to beat Portugal by 2 goals or more or by 1 goal with lots of goals scored the minimum of which is 4-3. Don't count on fair play points. Bento did his revenge of 2002. People overlook the fact if Uruguay 6 - 4 Ghana Korea 1-0 Por Korea are out even though GD is the same.
The Kor-Por and Uru-Gha matches both happen at the same time. Everybody has a chance to advance. We have a little bit more opportunity to advance here than in 2018. Just enough there to not completely give up yet
This Portugal team is beatable. But LKI absolutely needs to start. It's a different team with him on the pitch because how dangerous his crosses are. IMO he has one of the best left foot crosses in the world right now. I really think we would've picked up a win or even two had LKI started both of these past two matches.
Korea actually lost lots of ELO points and even if they upset Portugal by a goal they will end up with roughly the same ELO points as before the WC. Korea lost more ELO points today than Germany did after the loss to Japan. In terms of ELO ratings Ghana beating Korea is a similar upset as Japan beating Germany. FIFA ranking will similarly reflect that.
