What? Lee Min-Sung is still in the NT? I don't think he has enough quality to be a NT player...

Honestly, he's average at best in my opinion. The only highlight in his career was his winning goal in '97 WCQ goal against Japan (which, frankly, Kawaguchi did a poor job with; it looked savable)... he is good man marker and never gives up, but he just makes too many mistakes in his own end(he was very poor against Germany and Turkey in the World cup). I'd rather see Lee Ki-Hyong instead of him (why isn't he never on the NT anymore?)

It's good to see Sim Jae-Won and Lee Dong-Gook back in the National squad, as I still think they got something left to show for the NT. I also hope Choi Sung-yong and Choi Tae-Uk does well... I think both of them deserved more playing time in the world cup.

Lee Ming-Sung was aweful against Germany. He doesn't have a lot of pace and acceleration, and it showed when German attackers outpaced him to the ball.

I like Choi Tae-Uk. He definately has a lot of potential.

unfortunately Lee MS is one of the few international class defenders Korea has to offer. I shudder at the thought of Kim Sang-shik trying to defend Totti or Neuville. Thank God Hong, TY Kim, and Choi stayed healthy for the first 5 games in 02!

Looks like Korea will wear their alternate strip for this one, which is the white shirt and red shorts. Our senior team have won every game where we wore our away jerseys so far... and hopefully this will continue!

OHHH thats comforting! That fool (when he played) was involved in just about every opposing team's goal during the World Cup.

    He's a brick with legs.

    Predictions

    Any predictions for this match?

It has a good chance of being a high scoring match, with a lot of big guns attacking, while our 4-back will be anchored by the likes of Lee Minsung and Sim Jaewon... yikes.

I hope we win 3-2. It could be ugly though.

Korea will be playing 4-2-3-1 formation for the first time. According to Joins.com, the probable line up would be like this,

    ----------------Choi Y.S----------------------
    ---------------------------------------------------
    -----------------Ahn J.H----------------------
    -Seol K.H---------------------------Lee C.S-
    ---------------------------------------------------
    -----------Kim N.I---------Yoo.S.C----------
    ---------------------------------------------------
    --Lee Y.P----Kim T.Y---Sim J.W---Choi S.Y

Coelho announced long time ago that he'll be using the 4-back defense line.

It could result in a disaster. Hiddink wanted the 4-men defense but later on succumbed to teh 3-men defense.

    Correct.

I don't understand why he's even in the team. As soon as MS Lee came in against Germany, I knew we were gonna lose. He lets in those goals way too easily.

Hope that Choi Y.S will not start the match. I don't like him... I haven't seen a lot of Korea NT matchs but the ones I saw with him as forward was really pathetic. He got a lot of opportunities and miss them out. He needs 20 opportunities to score one goal.

what a physical game those Colombians played.
I hope a lot of our players are ok.

Not a bad game overall, the Columbians managed to defend well, but hardly troubled our defense. I'm still dissapointed not to get a win though.

I thought the two blondes - Lee Chun Soo and Choi Sung Guk played very well this match; whereas Ahn Jung Hwan was subpar today. He seemed to slow down the pace of our play and made quite a lot of mistakes.

Oh well... the killer touch wasn't there (I kind of miss Hwang Sun Hong) but I was happy with how sound the defense looked.

Err 0-0, the scoreline you got to hate the most

Well, we were like how japan was against Uruguay, in control of the match but not winning the match we should have won. The lack of goal finishing always comes back to haunt us, that's all I have to say... defense was a really nice surprise though. And I was impressed with Choi SG as well.

Not sure what this result tells us about our new coach and his strategy. This could usher in the era of Coelho -- tight defense, low scorelines, more 0-0 draws... Obviously he will more time to get his system in place. Not a bad result, but also not very meaningful.

Let's just hope his philosophy isn't too "Italian"-influenced, i.e. "OK we got a goal now! Let's drop back and defend the whole game!" I would hate that.

    Defense

Hi I'm new here. Just wanted to say hello.

It's quite interesting, because I guess the first observable worry was the Korean defense, considering Hong retired from international football, and the back 3 players who played in the WC are aging. I see many up and coming mid-field and foward players, but it is nice to hear that there will be formidable defense. I think it's important to acknowledge that a good defense is foundational in any football team, and an organised defense can at least secure a draw. Anyhow, I didn't see the match, but it seems like ironically, it was the attacking aspect of Korea which was lacking -considering many people were worried about the defense.

    Mediocre performance

I only managed to see a replay of the match shown on Telemundo and have some thoughts.

Obviously, Coehlo isn't Hiddink and it should be expected that despite the legacy left by Hiddink, the national team will reflect the differences of philosophy. Having said that, can anyone explain to me why the ****************** there was a banner reading, "You already are a hero Coelho"???? What has he done to attain this status? Are we just conferring this honor to anyone who comes over to coach us?

Now to the things I saw on the pitch.

Seol has to stop diving and play football. I've never seen him flop so much and maybe he was tired and all, but what the hell was he doing? Granted he had some good chances, but against a team like Colombia, it's wise to be physical and hold your ground.

Why was Lee Young-pyo playing left-back? It's like seeing Barcelona play Rivaldo in the defense.

Good performances by Lee Chun-soo, although the dude has to lose the piss yellow hair (same goes for Choi Sung-guk). I particularly liked that pass he made to Seol which shaved the wood-work of the cross-bar.

Great save by Farid Mondragon on Ahn after the free-kick managed to find Ahn at the backdoor. Typical squandered opportunity by Ahn though. Plus, this guy tries to do too much with the ball on his own.

I think we could have done better with Song Chong-gug playing and Lee Young-pyo moving up to the midfield.

Can someone tell Choi Young-soo to quit football permanently because this joker looks clueless on the field. He has no reason to play current international football because he looks so out of place with his vision and his play. He's a ******************en dinosaur and put Cha Doori instead. Choi's gotta go.

Overall, 0-0 sucks. It's a pathetic result that tells us volumes in terms of our ability to finish. Coelho has his work cut out for him again.
