2 children of Turkish immigrants. All the immigrants we get here are druggies, rapists and murderers.
yeah but we don't know what they do in their spare time do we? just because there's no evidence of them being terrorists, doesn't mean that they're not.
Pfizer’s vaccine must be stored at about -70° C (-94° F) - a temperature only specialized freezers can produce. Not many facilities have these ultra cold freezers. Other vaccines may not need this.
Well, of course I don’t know for sure, but my guess is that if the first 3-4 candidates all show similar effectiveness and safety characteristics, that all of them will be mass produced and distributed. If the RNA vaccines have a head start due to speed of production, these require a second booster shot after a month. That means 14 billion doses with the attendant distribution issues with ultra low temp storage. The next two (actually 3 if you count a Chinese vaccine candidate) put the coronavirus spike protein gene into an attenuated adenovirus virus. These viruses are innocuous, and have been modified to inhibit replication in humans. Both the AstraZeneca and the Johnson&Johnson candidates use a chimpanzee Ad24 virus, while the Chinese candidate uses a human Ad5 virus. A lot of people think the Chinese vaccine may not be very effective because up to 30% of the population may have already been exposed to Ad5 and therefore may already have neutralizing immune responses to these carrier viruses. The use of a carrier virus in these vaccines probably means it may take a bit longer to get comprehensive effectiveness and safety data. But on the other hand these vaccines will be much easier to store (normal freezer temperatures) and distribute. My guess would be that we will likely see the initial rollout of the RNA viruses, and that these will probably be used to rapidly inoculate first responders and vulnerable populations. Based on the numbers of doses being discussed this may be up to ~10-20% of the population. Then, as hopefully these adenovirus-based vaccines come online, these will probably come to dominate the distribution for the rest of the population of the developed and developing world.
This isn’t strictly true. They clearly are not as common as normal freezers, but the technology has been around since the 1950s. Every modern biology and chemistry lab has at least one. There are literally hundreds of thousands of these at research labs around the US alone. So my bet is that there is ample production capacity to make these if needed. In addition, they are apparently planning on using dry ice for short term storage in insulated boxes.
Still remember those days on the potato chips front like it was yesterday 1327935888727347201 is not a valid tweet id
That's kind of what I initially meant to try to tease out. My brother works as a manger of logistics (in Europe) for a major player in moving and selling wholesale medicines.chemicals, etc. They deal with supply chains for a lot of the Major players and he reckons that these super freezr supply-deployment chains already largely exist. The miscommunication that I see that's developing is that the Press are not specifically defining if this "cold storage requirement temperature" is (or is not) actually a lower temp requirement than the standard freezing temperature that a vast majority of medicinals are already required to be transported and stored at. Or something like that .......
oh, don't talk nonsense. the Pfizer vaccine's storage requirements are a huge negative (especially for hot climates). and the world needs as much effective vaccine as it can get.
That the race is over and thats not important what other vaccines might come in the next weeks. It was clear that we would get one vaccine or rather several ones. The interesting thing was who does it first especially considering mRNA is a fairly new technique. Hence, "the moon is red"
He's saying Germany is the greatest country and has the greatest people that have ever walked this planet. Duh.
Fine to be proud of your country. The Germans have given us Porsches, Wagner, Reisling and currywurst. Not bad at all. Plus all that great humor and humility.
So, as we bash Trump and Trump voters, and herald the new kinder, smarter Biden administration, let's keep the key context for our recent politics in mind: Over the past 30 years, the wealth of the top 1% of the population has grown by close to 600%. the wealth of the bottom 50% of the population has grown by 77% over the same period. In 2020, the top 10% of households - those who have participated in the new global, digital, service-driven economy - control close to 70% of the total wealth. The bottom 50% of households control 1.9% of total wealth. That decimal point is not a typo. Trump as a phenomenon is not about Trump - he is a symptom not a cause. Our politics is not driven by race and gender so much as by economics and class. Going to take a lot of work to fix this underlying issue if you want to see the end of extreme politics and insurrectionist populists going forward. Pretty volatile situation.
