Right now on ESPN. Great stuff. Says we have the pyramid completely upside down, in that kids have to play to pay. Saying we completely need to restructure US Soccer to be successful.
He's absolutely right. Amazing that it's coming from a guy who has only lived in the country for 12 years. Great points.
Hopefully, the federation made some $ off this world cup and can hire someone outside this US soccer circle.
everything he said is completely on point. If US Soccer does not hire him as the national team manager, they at least need to give him a job as a Technical Director or some sort of position! He knows his stuff
We need him as our next coach. There's the fresh ideas that the status quo doesn't give. Make Sigi Schmid the assitant and maybe have Cladio Reyna involved as well.
Pointing out problems is the easy part. Coming up with workable solutions is what's hard. It's easy to say that pay to play is the problem. What's the solution? How do you fund it?
haha. i really hope he is setting himself up to be USSF president. how can gulati be replaced with someone like klinsmann? i really don't think it matters if we had a german, or any other nationality, running the USSF. gulati is a businessman/academic. we need a soccer mind that also has the ability to create solutions to help our sport in the future.
Until the money comes from transfer fees someone with vision needs to find ways to get sponsership money. This World Cup has shown that soccer can be very popular in this country. With popularity comes money. Someone like Don Garber (not saying Don Garber specifically) needs to be leading US soccer that can bring external financial solutions to this country similar to the establishment of SUM.
All it took was 5 minutes of Klinsi on ESPN to shed light on all the problems facing US Soccer. -Mental Prep sucked -Quality players never showed up -USSF infrastructure sucks -1st touches were abysmal And so on... By the way, did anyone see Lalas? He looked like he wanted to destroy BB, but restrained himself multiple times.
Hoopscoach took the time to write down Klinsmann's comments here: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1474637
Well, ideally we would have youth academies run by the clubs that foot the bill and are then compensated by selling the talent to other teams/leagues. That's how it is done elsewhere anyway...
.....and that's why we still have pay-to-play! For the most part, youth soccer is a business scheme in which parents invest money in order to equip their children with enough skills to earn a free ride to an NCAA school. What we need is enough elite clubs (not just MLS academies) interested primarily in professional development. But the independent youth clubs need financial motives. Is there any video of this piece?
What he wants is a reason that a lot of European countries are jokes financially. Some people want this Utopia socialist vision that is just impossible to sustain. I'm not paying the bill for every US kid to play soccer. It's stupid
Ditching pay to play is a great idea. I don't think anyone would disagree. The problem is that MLS can't even afford a reserve league right now, how on Earth can they afford genuine academies?
Yes, because club teams operating academies and selling their talent is you paying for them to play. Go back to football, Glenn Beck.
