Mitts didn't see another minute in the tournament, not even as a sub. That's what I was theorizing as to what exactly happened. It's not the first time a coup d'etat took place on a sports team and it won't be the last.

Aside from the handball yesterday, Mitts stabilized the center of the field once she moved there and Chastain went out to the left. She *can* play the middle and the right flank, and did just that when the Charge needed her to last year.

In '05, my main backline would be Mitts, Rampone, Reddick and one of the ace U-21's. I don't think Markgraf had a good game yesterday - she was trailing behind Petersen on the first Denmark goal. Reddick and Rampone were away from the play, Mitts was marking her assignment, and Markgraf simply lost a foot race.

If Chastain, on the other hand, wants 200 caps, like it's been said here, she may not be in a position to get there until *2006*. There's no way the '05 schedule will lend itself to many friendlies; plus Algarve, Four Nations (perhaps) - that's maybe 15 or so, if that. There's no Olympic qualification, no Games themselves, no WWC '07 qualifying. Based on yesterday, are you confident with Chastain in the middle of the D in the future? I'm not. It's not the PC thing to say, but yesterday was pretty damning. :|

It's not like she has a hundred games left to hit 200.

And, it's not likely that precious Heather will be around the day after Ape is canned.....which I PRAY to GOD everynight happens, but much like the disappointents this fall, she'll probably get a ten year contract extension.

 

I just need to add......without that coup, the US would have lost to Japan and Heather would not have an Olympic Medal at all.

But It doesn't matter now. Once Ape is shown the door and the fed hires a coach with the capability of a real coach... Mitts will not find herself on the roster quite as much. There ar far better defenders out there, she is apes flavor of the month long over its experation date.

And If you honestly think she would ever take the place of Sobs on the roster your nutts. Remember one thing Pauk.... with the exception of Luckenbill, hucles and CP everyone out there was dead tired form actually being a year round starter. So judging any of that back line on the basis of this game is far beyond delusional.

Oh and just to clarify a point you're sure to bring up... Mitts starting stint at the begining of the year was all due to Joys injury. Had Joy not been injured Mitts would never have cracked the starting line up. So refresh my memory and tell me what meaningfull non friendly game Mitts started once Joy returned?

 

I do realize Fawcett's back troubles opened the door to Mitts racking up the caps (closing in on 30 now). But that's how the year played out. As a result, Mitts does have more goals than any defender on the team with one game to go. Both were game-winners of friendlies. It may not mean much, but everybody has to start somewhere.
