we played 3 soccer games on the trip. we played against the boat's crew (with a few Amazon locals on their teams for 2 of the games). we tied 2-2, tied 1-1 and won the tiebreaker 7-4 (I had 4 assists in that game). thats me in the pink shirt w/ gray capri sweats.
AHEM. Today was the first day same-sex couples were allowed to legally wed. They've had the same benefits and are treated the same as straight, married couples, but up until now they've never been able to do the married thing. ANYWAY ... Trine Rønning (26) and her fiance, Kristin Blystad Bjerke (29), were married today in Oslo. They've been together since 2005 and Rønning popped the question last year. Bjerke is a former teammate, who played with Kolbotn, as well as the national team at one point. Trine says Kirstin will be the 'wife,' now that she's retired, and Trine will continue to play football professionally. http://www.seher.no/php/art.php?id=799841
I'm hoping the folks I'm driving up to St Louis for the MLS SuperDraft with are up to going to the WPS draft on the 16th. Would be cool to attend that as well at least for me. LOL
Woohoo. Sounds like I'll be at the WPS draft on Friday. I love that the folks I'm going with don't just discard women's soccer from the get go.
I thought that was pretty much a duh thing since her *ahem* "best friend" announced last week that she signed with LA. LOL
Yahoo!!!! Mark my words, Marta will be a more recognizable then Mia once she starts lighting up the WPS goals.
one interesting point. Marta has been known to get in some scuffles and throw a few punches playing for UMEA. For the most part the Swedish players seemed to shocked to respond. But I got to tell you, if she pulls that in the WPS, she is going to get her ass handed to her. I have seen those softball punches she throws. I am not a violent person per se but were someone to punch me like that I would instinctively come with a roundhouse and deck them and I could name a bunch of US players I could see doing to same: Mitts, Solo, markgraff, box, oreily, wambach, kai, hell even tarp. I guess my point is I only expect it to happen once lol Also in some sick and twisted way I would love to see her and Kai go at it. Brazilian heat versus Hawaiian fire. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!!
Here were the final vote totals for the women's award: 1. Marta 1,002 points 2. Birgit Prinz 328 3. Cristiane 275 4. Nadine Angerer 198 (I guess that game where she let in the 4 goals against Brazil in the Olympic semifinal never happened ) 5. Kelly Smith 150 (scandalous, this. If anything the top 3 should've been Marta, Cristiane and Smith)
It's not like she won it, Pauk. Aside from performances in the tourney of the year, they also base voting on club performance. Unfortunately, Smith didn't have a great year on either front. No OLY for England AND Arsenal f'ing bombed against Umea in UEFA competition. (And I think not having any sort of league is one of the reasons why there were no U.S. players on the short list.)
