Anybody from arlington or thereabouts know anything about this place? It hasn't opened yet, but it looks like it should be ready in a few weeks. Its on clarendon blvd., about 2 blocks or so from summers. It bills itself as an 'irish sports pub', which to me screams 'soccer', of course. umm... DCU 'implications'?
History lesson: Kitty O'Shea was the mistress of Charles Stuart Parnell, Irish nationalist leader in the 19th century. when the story came out he was hounded out of politics by the Catholic hierarchy and victorian hypocracy. Good name for a bar. Don't know squat about it though.
Ahh yes, in fine NOVA tradition another bar that is Irish in name only. Freddy Adu is more Irish than most of the "Irish pubs" around here. Smart money says it will be a great place to go get a pint of Guinness and listen to all the junior executives discuss whether they'll buy an Audi or a Saab after they get that big promotion they've spent the last 2 years on their knees in the bosses office to earn.
It won't be a proper fake Irish pub until they have some maudlin' folk singer drowning out your conversation with dreary songs about how much he or she's missing the rolling green hills of back home.
...followed up by rousing renditions of "American Pie" and the "Who the f*** is Alice" song. Few things make me want to leave a bar, but those are two of 'em.
There's a Kitty O'shea's here in Louisville. I don't know if there is any connection or not. But it's a fairly decent pub that has good selection of import beer and usually has some pretty good music. The crowd is not really my type anymore (U of L students) but all in all a decent pub. Of course they never showed matches to my knowledge, so that's a check mark against the place.
Oh yeah. Now I remember where I've heard the name before. Isn't there a Kitty O'Sheas down by Catholic University where all the college drunks hang out? I remember going down there years ago. You know, to hang out with the drunks.
