That's a bitter sweet story. Success coming at a price. Or maybe not the success you envisioned. I hope Matt gets bought after his contract is up. Also hope no Yanks sign a 4 year contract unless of course they are actually going to play for that parent team.

I caught the end of this 1-1 draw. It was boring and Matt didn’t play. But I did learn that Alaves has a new coach.

Bitter sweet might even be a bit harsh to be honest. I'm sure a lot of guys would take being bought by Chelsea followed by some quality loan opportunities where they actually played. Plus he's young enough to settle in at an appropriate level where ever that may be and still carve out a big chunk of his playing career.

He seems to have done well in La Liga before their regular defender came back from injury.

I thought so, too. Lots of matches left in the season of course. Wait and see.

Matt tends to have that one mistake that is so egregious he falls our of favor with teams

I wonder if he's somehow prickly or petulant in training? He just seems to get sidelined more often than his play suggests. He played more than I expected at Vitesse, but aside from a couple of patches at Reading just seems to get kicked to the bench more often that you'd think given his play. Weird. Maybe he's gotten crotchety in his old age.

Reading loved him until he got a bone headed red card then everybody was ready to kick him to the curb (it was late in season don't remember context but Matt went from a fan favorite to pariah right after)
