How much can you really even know about the guy if you don't know how to spell his name.

I mean, he's been with the National team for 6 years, and been capped 50 times. Geez

So, you can spell his name good. Now how do you think he played today?

He had some nice moments and some not so nice ones.

How do you think the other 10 players did today?

Not near as bad as people say. Didn't hold on to the ball very well, but wasn't getting any help at all, and he's NOT a target forward, though he does a good impression.

That's kind of the rub isn't it, Jovan is always played out of position. Problem is he really doesn't have one with this squad.

Which is why we should play with 5 mids.

It's not like we have 4 good defenders.

Kirovski sucks - he is soft and doesn't have the athleticism for the international level. He doesn't have speed, wins almost no 50-50 balls, isn't good in the air, can't beat an international defender 1-on-1, doesn't put real pressure on the defense, doesn't make killer passes, doesn't make the players around him better.

The only thing this guy is good at is poaching - and there ain't that much poaching available at the international level.

I forget, how many goals/game has he scored in his six years with the Nats?

i think kiro will be the 23rd man on a 23 man roster, dont forget, if the ref didnt have his head in his ass he would have drawn a PK

    (a) That fould was out side of the box, (b) Ref probably thought he wouldn't even get to the ball.

I've seen enought to know that I wouldn't be using a jetlagged Kiro as my 23rd man for a qualifier when we have guys like Ante Razov available.

After watching the game, I thought Kirovski was particularly bad. He did some things well, but the truth is he has not currently nor has he ever fit in in Bruce Arena's system. He has attempted target forward, and performed poorly. He has attempted midfield and has disappeared for large stretches of the game.

He lost possession way too much for my liking.

There are 12 other options I would rather see at forward for the USMNT. They are (in no particular order):

    1. McBride
    2. Donovan
    3. Mathis
    4. Razov
    5. Wolff
    6. Buddle
    7. Cunningham
    8. Twellman
    9. Joe Max-Moore (although barely)
    10. Casey (I know I am getting desperate with 10, 11, and 12)
    11. Quaranta
    12. Johnson

Yep there they are. If it was a world cup qualifier obviously you don't run out #6, #10, #11 or #12. But that is why Jovan shouldn't be in the picture.

At attacking midfield, I would rather have.....

    1. Reyna
    2. JOB
    3. Mathis
    4. Donovan
    5. Martino
    6. Convey

So that is how far he is on the depth chart in my mind. Let us get some of the youngins in there. This horse is dead. He has never been quite good enough for the USMNT. Don't know that all the forwards listed above are good enough, but they merit some consideration.

I think you really have Reyna, Obrien, Donovan and Martino . The first two are very good. Martino hardly played. Donovan is the question mark. He seems to play there with San Jose this year. Mathis is a forward. This is where he can really score. Convey has speed and is left footed. Left mid is where he should be.

There is not doubt that if Razov keeps his current form he'll be on the Gold Cup team. Ante may disappear at times, but when he get the chance he makes no mistake about the finish. (That being said, he does hold the MLS record for woodwork rocking.) Plus he is excellent at holding the ball, which is what we needed yesterday.

Once again not impressed with the play of JK. That being said, I don't think the Bruce has given up on him, he has to see something in him that keeps him getting called in for matches.

I put my trust in the Bruce, it is very difficult at times, especially with JK, but there has to be a method for the madness. There just has to be....could I be wrong?

As far as Razov is concerned, yes he playing very well right now, and in my opinion deserves a spot over JK.

It doesn't matter if the foul was outside the box or inside. That was the last defender. That's a straight red card. 11 on 10 after 180 seconds. Think about how different a game it would have been. Kiro got screwed on that one.

Also the hand ball before Turkey's PK was deliberate. That's at least a yellow.

Which brings up a point. I was astonished that Donovan would go berserk after that call. He should know better. Did he think the ref would say "hey aren't you LD? You know you are right, maybe I should call a drop ball here." He was supposed to be one of the veterans for Pele's sake. Now if he gets a yellow against Brasil, he is out of the Cameroon game.

The ref blew a call which resulted in a penalty. (the no call on the handball). LD got yellowed for dissent. The captain should have been dissenting.

I agree with this list, but the problem is, in Bruce's mind, he always wants to have a target forward on the field. This is why Jovan has had so many chances with the Nats - he's the only one who can "fill in" for McBride in Bruce's scheme. Bruce has obviously done a great job with the national side, but he needs to be more flexible up front. You can't force a square peg into a round hole. You need to play the 2 or 3 most in-form players, obviously taking the overall strategy of the match into account.

If we are really playing to win this tournament, he messed up by starting Jovan - this was the one match we HAD to win. Now we are faced with having to get points from a Brazilian team as desperate as we are. Mathis and Donovan would have been the better pair vs. Turkey. Take Clint out at the half if you want to "save him" for Brazil - Clint has never been a great sparkplug off the bench since his knee injury. But make sure you get points vs. Turkey.

And next time, leave Kirovski at home and bring any of the above list of players in his place. I'd like to see Casey get more of a shot on this team before 2006.

His former teammate's form in Kansas City is also steadily improving and has to be considered for the Gold Cup. I wish we had him for Brazil today.

Really, I think one of either Wolff or Razov probably have a call up coming soon. That would leave one of Kirovski, Cunningham or Twellman on the outside looking in. I know who I'd pick.

Razov may have a spot as a role player or if injuries or Europe strike the A-squad. A touch one dimensional, but that left foot can score goals. Would be a nice guy to have around on set pieces as well.

I think Jovan is on the squad for several reasons.

    1. He scored a number of goals and played well for both Birmingham regulars and reserves in the Premier League.

    2. He didn't play that much last year and his league season is over, so there's no club/nats hassle. With two competitions plus a bunch of friendlies this Summer, Arena must be trying to avoid killing of the heart of the MLS season.

    3. Striker options are fairly limited.

As much as I respect Stewart, I think he's the one who probably should have been left back with his club team to make way for a younger player.
