If JK gets on, I will pick it up. Splitting the short attention span between the Ryder Cup and listening to this one at the moment.
Free kick for Newcastle. Yellow card to Purse for foul on Lua Lua. Robert takes it, over the cross bar. But ref allows Newcastle to take it again and then moves the ball up 10 yards for dissent against BC. Edge of penalty box, into wall. Nothing comes of it.
JK back defending as Newcastle earn a throw deep in BC area. Played 71 minutes. Shearer gets clattered, earns a free kick. Solano or Norbert to take. Newcastle shot by Dzabidas (sp?) is blocked by Purse. Ref is very odd. Some indecision on whether to let play go on for an injured player.
JK tries to dance his way through the Newcastle defense but is unable to do so. Shearer has a break but overruns the ball and a BC defender clears. Corner for Newcastle. Solano curls it in... shot misses the target. Never troubled the goalkeeper.
BC has claims for a PK as Morrison goes down. Nothing coming from the referee. JK seems to be playing much more defensively. Not getting to many mentions on the offensive side of the ball. Horsfield hits side netting. 10 minutes or so let in this one.
Right footed shot from JK misses the goal. No real trouble for Given. Shearer goes down after a challenge. Free kick to Newcastle. No danger as BC clears. Cross into the area for BC cleared momentarilty but a corner is the ultimate result. BC puts everyone forward. Corner headed away. Newcastle break. Comes to nothing.
Cisse earns yellow for a tackle from behind. Newcastle offisides on the resulting play. Not much time left, maybe 2 mintues. Newcastle wants to get it to Shearer in the corner but offsides is called.
Pretty even battle. Newcastle was the better side, but Birmingham fought hard and put on consistent pressure (although they never really challenged Given). 1-0 probably would have been a fairer result. Kiro came on around 70' at left mid in a 4-4-2. Bruce (that is, Steve Bruce) has him making diagonal runs into the center, so he ended up in the center of the field quite a bit. At around 80', SB shifted BC into something in between a 3-5-2/3-4-3/4-4-2 (I never did quite figure out what it was). At that point, Kiro moved up into the slot behind the forwards and took on more of an attacking role, although he still tracked back to left to cover on defense. Kiro looked comfortable on the field, but had a couple of bad first touches in his first 10' on the field -- he seemed to be trying to be a bit too delicate with the ball. After he moved into the center, he started to settle in and control the ball better and had a couple of nice touches and passes in the attack. He made several decent runs to create space for himself and others, and had the shot from just outside the 18, which he couldn't quite get his foot over and get on goal. Overall, I kind of felt like I was watching a Nats game -- he showed hints of quality and ball skill at times, bud couldn't quite turn it on and make a real mark on the match.
I kinda felt to same way, that he showed flashes of quality play but just couldn't kick it in gear. I hope he works himself into the starting 11, because from what I gather Kiro can fit nicley in Steve Bruce's system. Being able to play different positions will hopefully help him crack the starting 11.
I also saw a few times where he one-touched the ball into space, but nobody was making a run. In such cases, it's hard to say whom to blame. Hopefully JK and his teammates will get more familiar with each other, and some of those deft passes will find their mark.
JK didn't look to impressive but it's hard to judge coming into a game that late. The game's pace had already been established and he spent most of his 20 minutes in trying to catch up. The English commentator didn't speak very highly of him. At one point I think he said "Jovan dissapoints as usaul" or something like that.
I don't recall that. He certainly did make a comment though about Kirovski's lack of impact since he'd come on when a second successive pass went straight to a Newcastle player.
