OK, well it took a few absences to get there, but that makes the second central defender of Spurs who has been called up this season. Of course, he doesn't play there for Spurs.

Note: the [R] in the title is to allow us to comment on his performance later.

More great news and it seems like I am one of the few who actually want to see him at def midfielder the rest of the season to see how he does and if he can create a little bit more with the strikers. Also I think if he doesn't create very well but defends well from that spot the option of putting Keane at attacking midfielder and still having two strikers would seem like a decent idea. Or if you guys think Postiga can come back and defend better than Keane why not try Postiga at that spot? I always kind of thought the guy could end up as a attacking wing player or attacking midfielder. Just a thought and don't go crazy on me if you don't like it just throwing things out there to get our best players on the pitch.

He looks certain to play in central defence, either from the start or in the second half.

As glad as I am to see him in there, as it's good for the club's credibility and is partly why we can get people like Defoe, I do still have a bad feeling about this. He's been mostly in midfield this year and only in the past couple of games looks to have adjusted to it after a difficult time. Now he's going to be thrown out there at the back in a England team which is patched together from whoever's not injured and will have masses of subs on and off. A dodgy game here could damage his confidence, which can be fragile at the best of times. Oh well, just have to wish him luck and hope for the best.

I agree Sendorange but it is just a friendly and maybe if Tottenham's next match was ManU I would be worried but if King has a bad outing against Leicester it can more than likely be made up by other teammates. Hell half of Leicester is Tottenham rejects anyway. If he has a horrible game just rest him and hope he forgets it if you want to, Anderton is supposed to be back from what the official site is saying. Don't know if that is good or not but we need depth so it can't be that bad.

I actually think that King's in a good situation being called in now. Obviously, with Ferdinand and Campbell in there King isn't going to get much of a look. With Woodgate and Terry knocking on the door, it's quite possible he may never get to settle in with a partner in the first team. Guys like Southgate (on the 'experienced' end) and Gardner (on the 'potential' end) make King's prospects dicey at best.

But the only times King is going to be put in are when he's thrust in because of injuries, and it has taken quite a few twists of circumstance to even get him here this time. So the fact that he's got a built-in excuse of playing in midfield for Spurs actually helps him in Sven's eyes. If he does well, he's made real progress amongst the sea of competition. If he fails, much of it can be contributed to playing "out of position" for Spurs, so Sven may continue to give him a chance. And frankly, I think Sven is committed to doing so. Gardner is more of a "wait and see how he develops" in Sven's eyes, I think.

    Good luck King!

King scores a goal in the 47th minute and here comes the talk of King staying in the England side, which despite his performance so far doesn't warrent him being in the England squad at the Euros.

Great job by King against an extremely potent attack! Good job defensively, and he scores as well! WTG King!

Odd though, you'd think that someone who could play so well for England would make a decent centerback for Spurs ... alas, we seem to have the ability to screw up defending regardless of who we put in there.

I wonder if Gardner and King are experienced enough yet to partner in central defense? Hopefully by next season, they will be. Because between Richards, King and Gardner, at least one will likely be injured at all times.

Well done King. Now, bring that form back to the Lane.

Sounds like a new catch-phrase is forming.
