Hi all, I'm wanting to watch the Metrostars more this year, but I'm having some trouble figuring out who the big stars of the team are, a little about the history of the team and what kind of style they play. I've tried in the past to watch them, but drifted away. This year I'd like to focus and see the team play more. If anyone can help me, that'd be great. Thanks!
Well the first thing you should do is join the Empire Supporters Club (ESC). They are the true hardcore supporters of anything Metro. www.empiresc.com 2 of the teams biggest stars have left during and following the 2003 season. Goalkeeper Tim Howard was wooed by Manchester United, and star striker Clint Mathis is likely headed towards Germany. With that said the Metros do have a very talented team with good youth. Goal keeper Johnny Walker has been a fantastic replacement for Timmy. Kids such as Mike Magee and Eddie Gaven have really thrived last year. Midfielder Amado Guevara (captain of Honduras) was exceptional all year. Defender and US captain Eddie Pope was solid in the backfield, and super sub Johnny Wolniec lifted the team to the US Open Cup final. Coach Bob bradley is a vetran of the college syastem and the Chicago Fire, and is the winningest coach in MLS. I would urge you to join the Empire Supporters Club and come stand with us in section 101 as we cheer and will on the bhoys of the "Red & Black" www.metrostars.com www.metrofanatic.com www.empiresc.com

So are we. NYR metro has picked up your request for info. You're in good hands, he's been a hardcore metro fan for almost eleven months now.
The Metros are the best damn team in the world.... thats all u need to know. Come down to the Meadowlands and see for yourself.
AmuntValencia, Hold on now, this is a key moment in your life. Should you choose to follow the Metros, you'll - 1 - Suffer grave disappointement like you've never experienced before 2 - Go into fits of uncontrolled hysteria as some new foreign savior (like Jusko) brings new meaning to the phrase, "What the F is he doing here?" and "Why is he back!?" 3 - Become horribly confused as to what counts as a P-40 player, an FA, and an injured reserve superstar has-been that we must sign every year. 4- Never be able to spot the cheerleaders. 5 - Like players who are traded away. But, and I mean this with all sincerity, if you do watch a game or two....get caught up in the rush when we have a chance... come out to the stadium (tickets always available, fans are very friendly and happy to fill you in) ....see Walker make some killer saves.... watch Amando's footwork.....stand and cheer as Gaven makes another run... and then, one game, not all the time, but sooner or later, at one game you'll see something like Waly's spectacular goal that will make your heart sing and make you a believer for life. There are a few rush moments and I bet none of us would trade them for the world. When a Metro comes through, it is dynamite. And we will win something. And I believe we will do it this year, just like I did last year and the year before that. And one day we will. It's more than an act of faith. It is utter madness. However they are others who are just as mad so we gather at the swamp year after year and know we are all okay.
and better yet..... Unfortunately my yellow card status did not allow me to put this in a new thread.... http://www.mlsnet.com/content/04/met0113u15.html MetroStars Unveil U-15 Squad "SECAUCUS, NJ (Tuesday, January 13, 2003) - The MetroStars announced today the formation of an Under-15 developmental team. With the addition of this team to the already existing Under-19 team (formerly the Under-17 squad in 2003), the MetroStars take a step closer to their objective of forming a vertically integrated player development system. "The addition of the Under 15's to our Player Development System allows us to identify players at a key age of their development process. The MetroStars Under 15 team is just another step in the organizations quest to complete a vertically integrated player development system," stated MetroStars Chief Operating Officer Tom Neale."
Thanks Thanks all .. the info has been valuable. I think I may go this Sunday and sign up for the club. Is it worth it? I've never been to Nathan Hale's but sounds like a good way to meet supporters. See ya - me
They will entertain you. They will rip your heart out on occassion, but they will entertain you. Metro tend to exist in the extremes, so welcome, but don't suggest that we didn't let you know what you were getting into.
Re: Thanks You will not be dissapointed attending any Nathan Hales footy event. Although we are not playing a "glamor" opponnent, it should be a good turnout. The Metro supporters are a friendly bunch, they even put up with my crap, well some of them do.
Welcome to the most electrifying, heartbreaking, disappointing, thrilling, painful and breathtaking team in the MLS. As a long time fan I can tell you there is nothing better than going to the swamp to see the team play. I have witnessed some truly great futbol, some average futbol and something that can only be called soccer. The team current stars are Walker; goalie, Guevara; midfield, Pope; defense. We are hoping Gaven and Magee can grow into first rate strikers, we have been very disappointed in that front since as far back as the first season. When you go to the stadium, don't be shy about threatening to beat the kid with the horn behind you "within inches of his life" if he doesn't stop blowing the stupid thing in your ear every 5 seconds. It always works for me, and the soccer mom will usually cooperates and takes little Kevin’s horn. But I digress. I have seen Clint do a Maradonna on Dallas and smoke half their team almost the entire length of the field and score. I have seen Gio come in, in the last five minutes and score game after game. I have seen Tab dribble past four defenders like they were standing still and place a perfect pass for a goal. Hell, I saw Comas score on the European champions one week after their victory. It is a very good team to be a fan of, they go through great highs and very low, lows. There was the Bora season where I went to every home game and did not see them win one single game. Still they are my team and I will keep going back for more because you never know when something like the Wolly goal will just make you believe that the futbol gods have blessed your team. Once again Welcome and don't believe NYR Metros he's a wanker.
I see. I smell a conspiracy. But on the more serious type thing side, come out to Nathan Hales and join the ESC !!
