Man, good for the USSF to get this one right. Tapping into the throwback/limited edition jersey thing bothers me a little bit (slippery slope and all), but I really like that version of the 1950 jersey. Mix that in with some blue shorts and red socks and that would be a great look for the boys. I am sorely tempted to get one of those.
Don't know if I like it that much.....maybe when i see it on gameday on the players I'll like it more......my first thought was what is New Zealand going to think........they'll probably laugh thinking that those are our regular kits.......i dunno......like I said maybe it will grow on me
I often wonder US soccer did not come up with this. Barcelona and inter Milan actually have their away jersey very similiar to the US 1950 jersey. that meant Nike already has the design.
no they'd laugh at our regular kits, those things are absurd... the two layer thing and the fact that 20 other national teams as well as a few club teams have the same exact shirt only different colors
I'm 6'2" 190 lbs and have ordered size large in the past. The Nike XLs I've tried were quite large for me. I guess I'd recommend the L.
Blue or Red stripe? Which is historically accurate? the replica at the bigsoccer shop (red stripe) or the Nike throw back (Blue stripe) They can't both be right.
Please tell me you and the above posters are kidding. That kit was an absolute disgrace. Very patriotic, but just plain horrible. I'm not a huge fan of the current home kit either (the navy away is excellent). I love the throwback jersey, much better than the current home kit. I just couldn't swallow the price (correction, I could, but I knew I was going to get my head ripped off by the wife after my recent ussoccer.com purchases) I think we need an all-around new set of jersey to start '06 qualification.
USSoccer and Nike don't claim that this retro jersey is a full historically accurate replica of the 1950 jersey. They only claim it matches that one in style, not color. They've changed the color from the jersey used in 1950. from http://www.ussoccer.com/news/fullstory.sps?inewsid=36471
Even at standard shipping prices, $82 for the jersey is steep. 2nd day air would run $94. I didn't even want to look at next-day air.
I agree. "Styled" rather than accurate means I will look at them in Richmond and maybe get one at the match. Not gonna buy it unseen and pay shipping.
Same here. 6'2" 200lbs, and I swim in most Nike XLs. Unless they've changed their sizing recently, the L should be fine.
Except that we lost two World Cup games wearing the away kit. They don't draw up superstitions out of thin air. I'm serious, I liked the '94 version. I think it was the first real uniform that gave the Americans a modern look, and that they just didn't stitch the colors of the flag together at the last minute.
Just a guess perhaps but it could be that the rights to that original design are owned by someone other than US Soccer or they sold the design to the manufacturer and they would not be able to make one that was too close to it themselves. There a several scenarios.
If I didn't already have my Toffs jersey, I'd consider getting one of these. Personally, it's a hell of a lot better than the cookie cutter Nike has every international team on the planet wearing right now.
