Some history of USSF complaining about US immigration laws back in 1973: From the May 28, 1974 @socceramerica A familiar problem For all those wanting “change”: the fact is U.S. laws make a lot of the “pro-American”/“more like Europe” changes difficult, if not impossible pic.twitter.com/izpCOcuHZa— Steve Holroyd says "Bring on Soccer War II"! (@soccermavn) July 14, 2020 One of the players was Dallas Tornado forward Mike Renshaw, who went on the 7-game (IIRC) tour of Bermuda & Europe in spring 1973 (2 caps). Not only didn’t he have a U.S. passport but he says he couldn’t get back in country when the tour ended because the visa had expired. https://t.co/MgdAPBvXY4— Paul Kennedy (@pkedit) July 14, 2020
Time to revive this thread. How can we explain this? Late addition to the US U17s is Liverpool academy attacker Keyrol Figueroa. FC Dallas product of Honduran descent. The USSF is doing a great job of recruiting. The ones they haven't gotten they couldn't have done much else. https://t.co/aRr712zEBS— ChuckMe92 Soccer (@ChuckMe92Soccer) September 16, 2022
It's a head-scratcher based on the facts we have. * Maynor starting playing in MLS in 2015 and retired in 2021. * According to his club, he got a Green Card around March 2020, meaning he couldn't get it from his dad's Green Card. * It's more likely, if the info above is accurate, that his mom got a Green Card upon which they were able to get citizenship. She was a top handball player, so a smart immigration lawyer could use that to get a quick Green Card. * But that doesn't explain why Maynor didn't get a GC, unless his clubs didn't really need an international spot. * Hoping this isn't a "you almost have citizenship, so we want to bring you in" situation, but we should find out more soon.
https://www.archyde.com/keyrol-figu...olarship-and-extends-his-bond-with-liverpool/ You knows how reliable this article is but interesting to note is says he has an English passport presumably due his father's time at Wigan. But the English don't give those out like candy so again... who knows of its accuracy. But then again, he is playing at Liverpool's academy so maybe he does.
Well, Mom's tweet answers the question of what (we can worry about the "how" another time): gracias hoy familia Figueroa-Norales 3 años UK citizen Gracias amor #metas#hijos#Love you Maynor sandra keyrol keyvan keysha #goaltogether pic.twitter.com/EFbjyNvCDo— Sandra Norales (@snorales) July 2, 2017
Wow, remember this thread? Maybe we knew all this already, but here's a USL profile of Rincon with some details: Born in Colombia, Rincon moved to Spain at a young age. For nine years, Rincon was a part of the RCD Espanyol youth academy in Barcelona before moving to the United States in 2020, with his family relocating to New Jersey. He played high school soccer for Brick Township High School and club soccer at the Players Development Academy (PDA) in Somerset, N.J. for a year and a half. ... While Rincon made the move to North Carolina, his family stayed in New Jersey. https://www.uslleagueone.com/news_article/show/1264852
