Hi, i have done a comparison on the kick off times of Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018. Although the local kick off times in Brazil have been much earlier in average, the fact that the sunset had been between 5 and 6 pm resulted in many games ending in the dark. This table compares all 48 matches of the group phase with the shade of blue getting darker depending on how many hours before local sunset a match started.
This is interesting, thanks for sharing. I have a question and I am not sure where to post it, but it is kick-off time related, so... I land on Moscow (SVO) at 1:45 PM on the day of the ARG-ICE match, kick-off is at 4:00 PM. I think I should make it to the stadium but definitely not go to the hotel before the game. Do any of you know if stadiums have some sort of luggage storage area or something where I can leave my stuff while I attend the match? Sorry for asking this on your post, @Gibraldo, I honestly don't know where to ask this question.
no problem. maybe you should store you luggage at the airport and then go back after the match. another idea might be having the luggage transported to your hotel after you arrived at the airport.
Woo that's cutting it close. I think I did that for Mexico-holland 2014. I had two hours. Found out there was no luggage storage in Fortaleza. Took a taxi to my hotel dropped the luggage and the taxi driver went through some back roads and brought me to the start of the security check area which left me with a mile run lol. I thought I had made it on time despite hearing the crowd noise cause no one was in the stands. Then I noticed the entire crowd was in the concourse cause the sun was melting the seats. Missed the first 15 min. But the game was all second half action. Missed gio's goal cause the lines for refreshments were super long. I don't recommend the two hour sprint anyway you can get their earlier? Traffic in Moscow is notorious (but I never been)
Looked it up... looks like u can leave it at terminals D,E, or F " Prior to flying away to warm countries you now can leave your outwear and shoes in luggage storage rooms of terminals D, E, and F. Payment is made at the moment of dropping off the luggage. If you demand your things before 8 days, payment should be made due to the applicable fare: 500 PUB. for one day and 250 PUB. for the each following day for every piece of luggage. Incomplete day should be paid as full. Luggage storage room is located on the left side of Terminal F, 1st floor. Working hours: 24/7" I guess it's just F If it is available during the World Cup I dunno might want to send them an email to confirm... Fortaleza was suppose to have luggage storage but was discontinued sometime before the World Cup. Didn't find a luggage forwarding service
To answer your first post... unfortunately I can’t get there earlier than that. You’re right that will be really close. Thanks for looking that up man! Yes I’ll definitely contact them to confirm, but this is is good start!
Nice work! Impressive! I am actually a bit disappointed to learn how early the sun sets in St. Petersburg. 22h25 is the latest it sets. Which might seem late for some, but its not much later than Amsterdam or even Madrid at that time of the year. Although the sun rises much earlier in St. Pete -> 03h35! Similar sunrise time for Moscow, although sunset is over an hour earlier in Moscow. I guess its done for economic reasons, but St. P & Moscow really should be 2 hours ahead of Paris time/ 3 hours ahead of London. That way sunrise/sunset is Moscow would be about 05h00/22h00 which is better aligned with normal sleep patterns.
Well, but according to this, even when there is an actual sunset, there is no "night" during June. So I guess it never gets totally dark? https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/russia/saint-peterburg
hmm... interesting, although it shows that civil twilight ends at 12h10 and starts again at 01h50. Wouldn't that mean its dark for 100 minutes if you're on the ground (not in an airplane)?
It says that from 12:10 to 1:50 it's the Nautical twilight, whatever that means. We need an expert here. I'll google and come back
There you go. So basically, yes, there will be a little more of light than "Night" Nautical Twilight Each twilight phase is defined by the solar elevation angle, which is the position of the Sun in relation to the horizon. During nautical twilight, the geometric center of the Sun's disk is between 6 and 12 degrees below the horizon. In clear weather conditions, the horizon is faintly visible during this twilight phase. Many of the brighter stars can also be seen, making it possible to use the position of the stars in relation to the horizon to navigate at sea. This is why it is called nautical twilight.
In Brazil, the organizers ran buses directly from the airport to the stadium on game days. Check if they're doing that this time (you probably won't find info on this until closer to the tournament). Such buses should be able to get closer to the stadium than taxis and it'll save you having to figure out the Moscow metro in a hurry.
