He's only been there a week, same as Euro guys. And as a result, he'll start season without preseason match just like Euro guys (Taylor, Sigurdsson, Williams).

I wouldn't read into it too much, even if it would have been better for Ki to show his stuff.

Corks been doin well from what I gather, Britton has the armband for now, and Fer obviously has the fresh contract.

I figure that if he was in a desperate rush to go, he would have re-arranged his summer differently so that he would be in UK and active in August.

That said, he's got to have an eye on the door and still weeks to go in the window.

I fear a season filled with benchwarming.

Ki's too good to benchwarm... IMO no matter where he is I don't think there's any cause to worry

Ayew's out, but Borja Baston will come in as a replacement for a reported £15 million from Atletico. He's only 23, so plenty of room for him to improve and he scored 18 goals in 36 games for Eibar in La Liga last season. Ayew's excellent but never really fit in to our system as he was much more of an attacking midfielder than a winger, and Gylfi Sigurdsson's locked that position down. That will probably be us done for the window, unless someone leaves and I can't really see that happening. Ki will get his chances this season to break in to the side even if it's not in the starting line up immediately, if he performs like he did in 2014/15 then he'll be a regular for us, if he performs like he did for the majority of last season then he won't.

They won't sign a (positional) replacement for Ayew? Borja is more like the striker they really needed?

Well there's no point bring in an attacking midfielder with that money, as they'll be second fiddle to Sigurdsson. I think we're fine out wide, with Barrow set to make an impact this season and Dyer returning as good cover. Up front was where we needed to improve, and in Llorente and Borja we looked to have improved significantly in that area.

Williams is off to Everton, which is a shame. We did all we could to keep him here, and had done well to keep him here for as long as we had but ultimately if he doesn't want to be here there's not a lot we can do. We're going to have to replace him, which will be difficult but we've got a world record transfer fee for a player of his age to do it which is a nice bonus.

I don't understand this club anymore (and honestly don't know if I still care).

Is it just me or did they really turn back to getting plenty of Spanish players just after they got rid of them all (sans Rangel) under Monk?

The clubs quite simple, in that no one is bigger than the team. We've lost our key players time and time again, and replaced them successfully time and time again as well. Not sure what's difficult to understand.

We're not going to be bringing in players based on nationality, purely on the best value for money and if that means we bring in a couple of Spaniards then so be it. There were a few Spanish players who needed to be moved on under Monk, but so many of them leaving was co-incidental as Chico, Pablo and Michu semi-retired when we wanted to keep them.

    Team for Burnley

    Fabianski
    Naughton - Amat - Fernandez - Kingsley
    Fer - Britton (C) - Cork
    Dyer - Llorente - Routledge

There's no real commanding voice in the side, but Leon's got authority given that he's played for us in all four divisions and represents what we're about.

    We're used to it.
