I wish people could get away from using sheer numbers as the be-all-end-all.

for one, it's a team sport - most goals are scored as a result of teamwork and collectively executed.

furthermore, Not saying Shelton is ready to be called up...but when a player like Brad Davis, say, plays in a World Cup cuz he puts up "numbers" but can literally NEVER ONCE get by his man in the international level...those numbers mean nothing.

Same thing with Zardes...he puts up "numbers" in MLS...but he lacks the basic skills to play hold up forward even at Concacaf level (let alone world cup level)....its obvious if you watch him play that he is not very well suited to play hold up target forward....but his "numbers"...smh

people should just be able to watch players play and determine how well a given player's game could translate to the international game.

I get it with forwards....it is much more logical to just rely on numbers...but it isn;t that simple....as we saw with Jozy at sunderland etc.....numbers only tell a fraction of what is going on...never the whole story and shouldn't be used as such.

has been on since the 83rd min.

when he came on it was 3-3, replaced the scorer of the last Paderborn goal. And now 7-8 min away from Penalty Shootout.
Paderborn embarrassing themselves vs a RL club. They were ahead 3-1 before the RL club cameback to make it 3-3.

According to my match tracker, Roedinghausen tied it shortly after Shelton came on. They won in PKs but he didn’t take one.

Likely to stay at Paderborn after impressing in the last few weeks.

"Especially since Paderborn now wants to keep Khiry Shelton. The American was already on sale, but shone in the preparation and in Rödinghausen with his performance. "Khiry is showing what the coaching staff and I want to see. After his substitution he was our best player for me. "

Although, according to Przondziono, there are still loose requests for striker Khiry Shelton, who was originally supposed to be on loan. So was allegedly second division Greuther Fürth interested in a commitment of the American. But now the signs remain on, because Shelton convinced in recent games just with his physique and robustness.

On the bench for the Bundesliga opener.

Game starts at 9:30 eastern on Fox Deportes, Fox Sports Go (if you have Fox Deportes), and Fox Soccer Match Pass.

Last year he played 21 minutes in the 2. Bundesliga (2 substitute appearances) around an injury he received just after arriving in January. Shelton also played 450 minutes in the Oberliga Westfalen (5 starts) with Paderborn II picking up 2 goals and 1 assist.

I still find myself shaking my head in disbelief that he’s in the squad for a Bundesliga team. Watched him play many times at Yankee Stadium and, despite some physical ability mixed with dashes of skill, never saw an ounce of footballing IQ.

I'm not shocked at all....a large % of players who make/made the bench of Bundesliga teams would be basically invisible in MLS....

sure the top end is much better than MLS...but there's a lot more overlap between MLS and euro-leagues than many seem to realize....a large % of MLSers have actually played in top 4 leagues.....

Not in the 20 v. Schalke.

Paderborn II played earlier this morning, but I can't find match details yet.

Making your Bundesliga debut against Bayern. That's pretty awesome.

Would be even cooler if he weren’t literally one of the worst technical players I’ve ever had the pain of watching.

I don’t know how he is even still being paid to play.

Retweet but with added context that his soccer IQ was shockingly low even for MLS.

What’s really hilarious to look back on is the fact that NYCFC was so bad, he was one of the most exciting players we had back then.

Those were definitely not the good ol’ days.

He’s Exhibit A that while player evaluation by resume usually works, there are exceptions.
