When you saw the headline 'Kezman set for Madrid', did it cross your mind for even a moment that he would be heading for the Bernabeu? Yet I can't help wondering if Atletico are set to pick up a bargain.

Last summer, a failed Premiership striker headed for Spain, one derided far more than Kezman. Diego Forlan responded to his defenestration from Old Trafford by becoming joint winner of the Golden Boot, with Villarreal.

Kezman scored 105 goals in 122 games for PSV Eindhoven, which is why Jose Mourinho championed him as being in the Rooney class.

But sometimes strikers who struggle for form when they join a club never quite recapture it. That doesn't mean that the talent is gone. It could be, simply, that they cannot adapt to the style of play that their club use, or of the country they are playing in.

Which is why I think Kezman's move could be the right thing for him, for Chelsea and for Atletico.

I agree he will be fantastic in Spain. I wanted Souness to make a run at him before he signed with Athletico. I still think he can play in England just not Jose's conservative system.

He did not have what it takes to be good in England, no pace, strength or flair. He could not handle playing with little time or space on the ball.

Technically he is proficient though, so he should score quite a few goals in La Liga. It was a similar story with Savo Milosevic and Darko Kovacevic (although he was not too bad for Sheffs Wed iirc). They suffered in the Premiership, but then moved to La Liga and did well.
